Wizards with Crimson Eyes (紅い瞳の魔法使いたち, Akai Hitomi no Wizāzu) is the first chapter of the KonoSuba Bakuen manga series, and covers the Prologue to Chapter 1 in Volume 1 of the light novels.

Summary[]

In the Crimson Magic Village where even the armies of the Demon King dare not tread, the youths of the Crimson Magic Clan who still haven't learned any magic attend magic school.

As Megumin listens to Yunyun challenging her on test scores, Pucchin gifts the skill-up potion to Arue, Yunyun, and Megumin who had scored the best. When Pucchin comments on the skill points Megumin had accumulated being more than enough for her to learn Advanced Magic, she flashes back to seven years ago, where a voluptuous female wizard cast Explosion Magic in a display that awed the young Megumin, making her infatuated with learning that magic so she can get big boobs too.

After Megumin covets Yunyun's bento which she prepares to win in their daily competitions, the class goes through a body checkup performed by magic, and Megumin upon failing to make her growth statistics look better slaps Yunyun's big boobs out of jealousy. Later on, Pucchin lectures about magic of the detonation series such as Blast and Detonation, but dismisses Explosion as a gimmick because it takes too many skill points to learn, drains too much magical power from the caster, and attracts many monsters with its cacophony.

The class then heads out to the school yard under a cloudy sky for their physical education, where Pucchin asks them the most important thing for the Crimson Magic Clan during combat. The reasonable answers about calm and power that Yunyun and Megumin respectively give though are rejected, while Arue get full points for saying the correct answer which is "looking cool". Pucchin proceeds to cooly cast Call of Thunderstorm to prove his point, before instructing the class to group in pairs for coming up with the coolest combat poses. Although Megumin is invited by Arue whose body makes her envious, upon seeing Yunyun without a partner, she feigns sickness with a chuunibyou excuse so she can go sleep at the nurse's office. Soon afterwards, the class is also forced to run inside when the spell Pucchin cast earlier on causes it to rain.

Pucchin later blames the downpour on the Evil Spirit that was sealed near the village, as the seal at the Tomb of the Evil Spirit was found to be tampered with. The students are then ordered to return home in groups while the adults try to reapply the seal, though Megumin ditches Yunyun and heads home alone, where she is greeted by Komekko. The little girl proudly proclaims that she had fought and caught something they can eat for dinner, which to Megumin's surprise is an animal looking like a little black cat with wings.
