- Give Peace to These Wandering Dead!
- この彷徨える死者たちに平穏を!
Kazuma starts off by introducing himself and his incompetent party members, who instead of defeating the Devil King now have to concentrate on making ends meet by hunting monsters. When they travel to the Guild for finding jobs one day, Aqua after taunting Kazuma for selecting quests conservatively due to being the weakest Adventurer Class boasts how an Archpriest like her should take a difficult quest, while Megumin dreams of her strongest Explosion and Darkness fantasizes about high-level monsters dealing out powerful attacks.
As Kazuma feels exasperated at them, the Ruffian comes advising him to try out different things when still young, though they both proceed to ignore Aqua's bragging of her being a goddess. Kazuma next comments on Darkness wearing a black tank top and matching skirt that day which display her busty body, now that her armour was sent to repairs, and finds her womanliness emphasised when placed beside Megumin. Her subsequent excitement over the imagined comment from him about her being an erotic pig though turns him off, before Megumin makes to teach Kazuma a lesson outside because he feels glad at not being a lolicon.
Luna accordingly approaches to recommend a quest for hunting a Zombie Maker at a cemetery on the edges of town, since those low-level monsters capable of controlling Zombies are perfect for beginner adventurers to take on. Darkness then explains how quests for subjugating Undead can help Priest Classes like Aqua whose attacking magic don't work against other types of monsters level up, so Kazuma agrees to taking the quest in hopes that Aqua's intelligence can improve. After Megumin voices her agreement, Darkness whose lack of armour becomes a concern for Kazuma assures him of her defencive Skills making her body harder than Adaman Snails, though she then denies having talked about it feeling better when attacked without armour. Next finding Aqua fast asleep, the appalled Kazuma clarifies to the Ruffian over her uselessness, before Luna wishes them luck.
At the cemetery that night, the party shivers in the cold, during which Aqua claims her goddess premonitions warning her of a powerful Undead about to appear. They soon discover a group of Zombies numbering more than expected crowding towards a magic circle where a robed figure stands, somebody that Darkness ponders to also be an Undead, before Kazuma has to stop Megumin from casting Explosion or else the cemetery will be blown up. Aqua though furiously charges forth to stamp out the magic circle drawn by the figure whom she identifies as a Lich, one whose tearful begging defies Kazuma's expectations about that particular breed of high-level Undead.
As the Zombies become confused, the Lich explains how the magic circle is for directing lost souls of the dead to the afterlife, only to have Aqua demonstrate her powers capable of purifying all the Ghosts and Zombies in the cemetery through Turn Undead. Panicking when her body begins to disappear too, the Lich named Wiz is saved by Kazuma when he clobbers Aqua to make her stop, following which the party is surprised at Wiz looking like a beautiful woman. Wiz being able to hear the voices of Ghosts later explains how she regularly comes to that public cemetery, where the impoverished who cannot afford a proper burial by the town's mammonist priests are buried, so she can direct their souls to the afterlife, yet her presence has the side effect of animating nearby corpses into Zombies.
The next day, Aqua fumes over the deal Kazuma made to have her go regularly cleanse the cemetery of souls in Wiz's place, while Megumin and Darkness worry about the town's security that allows a Lich to live amongst people. Megumin then tells Kazuma, who is quite surprised at seeing a Lich somewhere other than in dungeons, of how fighting against one of those high-level Undeads will definitely get them both killed, making him glad of resolving the matter peacefully by having Wiz promise to teach him Lich Skills later on. Despite considering to bring Aqua with him for safety when he heads to Wiz's Shop the next time, he begins to backtrack on the idea after Aqua suggests making hell for Wiz by encasing her shop within a holy magic barrier, before Darkness reminds the party that their quest against the Zombie Maker has failed.
During the party's visit to Wiz's Shop afterwards, Aqua complains to a frantic Wiz about the served tea being cold, Megumin is attracted by a magical item that explodes when pulled, and Darkness desires to become a test subject for that item's explosion, reinforcing Kazuma's belief about the insides of people being the most important. Aqua who accuses Wiz of being responsible for the failure of their earlier quest then demands reparations from the impoverished shopkeeper, at which Kazuma has to furiously stop her.
