Early Life[]
Iris was born into the royal family of the Kingdom of Belzerg as its first princess, and spent her infant years sheltered inside the royal castle, where despite growing unbelievably strong from all the high-level cuisines she was fed,[1] the only battle she had fought was against a string of grapes that she proved victorious over and earned the loyalty of.[2] Although Jatice during Iris' early childhood kept close company with her, the princess soon found herself distanced from him because her big brother's princely duties required him to be on the battlefield,[3] leaving Iris with only her retainers Claire and Rain,[4] though Darkness also kept her company whenever available.
As she reached her preteen years, Iris became burdened with more royal duties, such as carrying the traditional royal engagement ring[5] as well as betrothal to Prince Levy of the Kingdom of Elroad.[6] And despite longing for an adventure like in the adventurer stories she had heard from the notable heroes she was acquainted with such as Mitsurugi, the princess was forbidden from heading out of the royal castle on her own.[7]
Late Spring Arc[]
When she heard about an adventurer named Satou Kazuma, whose party had vanquished multiple generals of the Devil King, the impressed princess sent a letter to the Dustiness manor at Axel declaring her intent to invite Kazuma for a dinner meeting, in which he can personally share his adventure stories.[8] And at some point, she took custody of a powerful magical necklace originally gifted to Jatice, which was said to activate once the undecipherable keywords etched upon it are uttered.[7]
Arriving a day prior at the Dustiness manor alongside Claire and Rain, Iris spent a night there before Darkness brought her party along to the dining room on the following day. As part of her royal upbringing, the princess had her retainers convey her words to the commoner Kazuma that articulated her disdain of him disrespectfully looking at her. Iris though soon became impressed by the realistic sand portrait of her that Aqua gifted, as well as amused by the way Darkness frantically admonished her troublesome party members at a corner, therefore went ahead with the dinner while listening to Kazuma narrate how he through sheer skill instead of power defeated the Devil King's Generals among other powerful adversaries.[9]
But after Kazuma recounted his days before he became an adventurer when he thanklessly guarded his home from various threats, Iris agreed with Claire's scepticism over him defeating the handsome Mitsurugi. Subsequent to Kazuma's outburst that saw Claire drawing her sword on him, the princess feeling disappointed expressed dismissal in addition to naming him a liar, a declaration which Darkness surprisingly asked her to withdraw. Refusing to back down because Kazuma wouldn't elaborate how he defeated Mitsurugi, the princess as a result got slapped by Darkness, though she was eventually talked into relenting. Next unsuccessfully preventing Claire from duelling Kazuma who proceeded to demonstrate how he defeated Mitsurugi, Iris became shocked by him Stealing Claire's panties. After the two sides reconciled, she personally asked for Kazuma to tell her more adventure stories. Yet just as Rain began to Teleport the trio back to the royal castle, Iris at the last moment dragged Kazuma into the Teleportation with them so that he could continue telling her stories,[9] in addition to enacting a small payback against Darkness for slapping her.[3]
Later in the bedroom at the castle assigned for Kazuma's use, she assured him of nobody in her family around to disapprove of his presence, and accordingly listened to him talk of the time he requested an embarrassed Darkness to wash while naked, a story which got cut short when Claire walked in and angrily scolded Kazuma for it. Iris anyhow approved of him to tell other stories in addition to letting him treat her as an equal, and was eventually told about the school festivals held in Kazuma's homeland. When suggested to establish schools in the kingdom, however, an alarm signalling another night raid by the Devil King's Army emphasised her point about the environment being too hazardous for studying. Noticing Kazuma's uneasiness over the royal capital itself attacked, Iris offered to send him back to Axel, before musing about him being similar to how Jatice used to be, followed by being requested to call him "big brother".[3]
On the following morning, when paying a visit to Kazuma who decided to stay at the castle, Iris became shocked by the sight of him forgetting to put on his trousers, and exhibited more distance from him as he explained the lack of pajamas forcing him to sleep in his trunks. Without having to take lessons that day, she asked Kazuma to play a boardgame with her, which she kept beating him on and therefore forced by the sore loser to play another match, until Claire came at dusk telling them to go eat dinner,[3] (though in the anime Kazuma managed to beat her once after sunset)[10].
On another day when she had to take lessons with Rain and couldn't play with Kazuma until dusk, Iris was listening to a lecture about how the royal family strengthened their bloodline by marrying heroes who could defeat the Devil King, when Kazuma who had wanted to play with her flew something like a propeller outside her window.[3] She was next distracted by the bubbles he was blowing floating in, which she playfully poked at, before telling the yelling Rain how this was a test of endurance, and decided to concentrate on studying for the rest of the day.[11] Immediately running off to Kazuma's side once the day's lessons had concluded, Iris was gifted that propeller said to be a magic item infused with wind magic in exchange for her losing a boardgame match with him. With Rain later clarifying the mundane nature of the bamboo dragonfly, however, Iris demanded a rematch with the fleeing Kazuma as Claire called them to dinner. And when her lessons ended early on some other day, the princess during a boardgame match listened to Kazuma reiterating all kinds of incredible sights and phenomenon existing outside the castle while Rain vouched the veracity about most of them, before seizing Kazuma's distraction to win the match.[3]
Yet a week into Kazuma's stay, Darkness led Aqua and Megumin into the castle seeking to drag him back, so Iris as soon as her lessons concluded ran to his bedroom, where Darkness citing his home and friends in Axel convinced the princess into letting him go, though not before she threw a farewell banquet for him that night. She consequently found Kazuma sulking by a corner of the banquet hall, and reminisced with him all the amazing things they had done over the past week including their boardgame matches. Next musing over her possibly of becoming an adventurer like Darkness, Iris started talking about a noble thief she admired recently committing a string of thefts against crooked nobles throughout the royal capital, a news that somehow made Kazuma excited.[3] Chasing after him back into the ballroom, the princess consequently became impressed by Kazuma loudly volunteering to capture the thief.[10]
A week after Kazuma's party began staking out at Alderp's manor in the capital, however, Iris instead heard them report back about the masked and extraordinarily powerful thief escaping capture during his encounter with Kazuma. Despite the princess smoothing over the other nobles' disgruntled comments regarding Kazuma by praising his prevention of the theft, she was unable to counter Claire's declaration that ordered him out of the castle, much to her disappointment.[12]
When another attack by the Devil King's Army occurred late that night, Iris from the castle's balcony saw Kazuma off as he and his party followed Claire to battle. Subsequent to the defenders' victory, she ran to greet Kazuma at daybreak when he carried a limp Megumin back into the royal castle, though he only talked about him dying once during the battle. Letting the pair go rest in Kazuma's assigned bedroom, Iris tried asking Claire to let Kazuma stay at the castle only to be refused. Later heading to the bedroom for telling Kazuma about the disappointing news, she was inquired by Megumin over the magical necklace. The princess thus explained all she knew about it, yet after Kazuma managed to effortlessly read out the keywords on it and caused the necklace to activate, the three of them became stunned when it turned out that Iris and Kazuma switched bodies. Accordingly relieved because Kazuma remembered hearing about the body switch being temporary, the princess received permission to use his body for heading outside the castle without her escorts, on the condition that she listens to Megumin, whom she called a "big sister".[7]
Iris soon after walking out of the castle was given some advice by Megumin over how to act naturally, before she was shocked by being allowed to perform the act of buying food from a food stand. Subsequent to enjoying some more street food, Iris was told to head back towards the castle in preparation for that night's victory banquet, though on the way she asked to walk through an alleyway, where they were approached by three thugs who initially ignored them. At Megumin's goading, however, the princess began provoking the thugs by traumatising their leader through repeated insults regarding his manliness, before following the Crimson Demon's advice to fight back against the men.[13] Yet on the next moment, Iris found herself back inside her undressed body in the castle's bathroom, where to her confusion she was faced with the similarly undressed Claire and Darkness. Shaken to discover that Kazuma using her body had just been about to wash the two noblewomen's backs, the princess confessed what had occurred, before asking about the specifics on backwashing. She accordingly watched Claire demonstrating the process on Darkness, before going ahead to wash the women's backs while talking about her outing. Although she happily went off to prepare for the banquet afterwards,[14] the things Kazuma committed using her body enraged Iris so much that she refused to talk to him. Despite her anger subsiding by the time she sat at the VIP table during the banquet, the social barrier erected between them precluded the princess from speaking with him again.[7]
Retiring to her bedroom on the royal castle's top floor subsequent to banquet's close, Iris was wakened late at night when an alarm sounded about unstoppable intruders heading upstairs towards her location. Left with Kazuma's party members at her side while her retainers went out to aid the castle's other defenders, the martial princess eventually had to pick up a rapier when the Silver-Haired Thief Brigade managed to burst in. Yet just as she was about to defend herself from the charging masked man and silver-haired boy, Iris realised that the masked man was actually Kazuma, followed by the pair Stealing the divine necklace off her neck as well as the engagement ring from her finger before escaping through the window.[15]
While Darkness excused herself from the castle at daybreak, Iris heard Aqua explain how that necklace she had sealed the powers of was extremely dangerous, because its effects could become permanent if one person dies during the body switch and might be abused by those with malicious intent. Next assured by Megumin regarding the issue being closed just as Darkness returned with Kazuma, the princess expressed her belief that the thieves were actually trying to save her from the danger of the necklace. Seeing Kazuma grinning smugly as Megumin, Claire, and Rain heaped acclaim on the masked thief, Iris then proceeded to tease him by stating her affection for the noble thief, before clarifying herself to be talking about the silver-haired boy. Her ensuing request from him, however, was interrupted when Darkness formally declared Kazuma as the one to defeat the Devil King and asked for the princess' blessing. Accordingly complained at by Megumin over her calling Kazuma "big brother", Iris jealously began tussling with the Crimson Demon, before asking Kazuma to finish their boardgame contest again someday.[5]
(In the anime, Iris heard about the dangers of the necklace from Darkness during an audience she and her court held with the party)[16]
After Rain Teleported Kazuma's party back to Axel, the princess promised her retainers that no punishment will be enacted over the loss of her engagement ring, since she was confident of seeing Kazuma again once he defeats another Devil King's General, and secretly asked him to take good care of their engagement ring.[17]
Mid Summer Arc[]
In hopes of seeing Kazuma again while being infatuated with the tale of Mito Koumon from his home country, Iris helping herself to a bag of money from the royal treasury as reward for massaging the king's shoulders, led her two retainers to Axel, where she took on the role of "Mitsukuni" by adopting the alias "Illis". Excitedly heading for the local Adventurer Guild upon arrival, the princess became disappointed at everybody staying silent and avoiding the trio, instead of picking a fight so that she can defeat them in what Kazuma described as the norm. Stopped by Rain from forcing a fight, the princess noticed Vanir whose mask looked similar to the one worn by Kazuma during the castle heist, and so asked for him to be her tour guide while taking on the follower role of "Hachibei" the moodmaker, which the initially reluctant masked man quickly agreed to become once Iris offered him the bag of money.[18]
Subsequent to some quarrelling with Claire regarding her acquisition of the money, Iris began explaining their mission of relieving the locals from the tyranny of Alderp, only to hear that the corrupt governor had already disappeared and was now replaced by the honourable Dustinesses. Admonished by her retainers for attempting to attract Kazuma to her, she explained to Vanir about the "Mitsukuni" she was imitating, but became annoyed when the masked man gave a less-than-favourable evaluation of the character. The princess proceeded to settle with teaching a lesson to some streetside thug preying on the weak in order to proclaim her identity, though they didn't see anything of the sort in the ensuing couple hours of sightseeing, during which Vanir showed her various peculiar sights around the city.[18] They eventually happened upon Dust thuggishly hitting on a girl, so Iris called on her retainers to beat him up and send him to the police, yet this still didn't meet the standards for identity reveal.[19] Declining Rain's suggestion of visiting Kazuma's mansion because she wanted to accomplish a bigger feat than his first, the princess received a proposal from Vanir involving the capture of the Silver-Haired Thief Brigade who were hiding somewhere in Axel, something she frantically turned down. Next shocked by the noise of a gigantic explosion in the distance, Iris learned from the subsequent nonchalance expressed by the locals as well as Vanir's explanation about it being a specialty of the city that explosions regularly occur in the countryside.[18]
The group accordingly ran into Auleep and his guards trying to pressure a female adventurer into becoming the noble's lover only to be snubbed by her and other adventurers, so upon seeing the enraged Auleep contemplating revenge on those who had shamed him, Iris worriedly wanted to have her retainers stop him, but was surprised when Vanir dismissed the issue as a small problem that will quickly settle itself. She accordingly became amazed by adventurers fearlessly boxing in Auleep who turned out to be on the run from Darkness, in addition to the residents' lack of reaction to a warning Fireball fired at the order of the noble. Anyhow unable to stand around watching the injustice play out, Iris prepared to jump into the fray once Auleep's guards drew weapons against the unarmed adventurers, but at Vanir's persuasion ordered him to fight in her stead like "Mitsukuni" would do.[18]
After Vanir swept all the guards down with one wave of hand, the astonished Iris was further amused by Auleep turning himself in to the police for help, though the group having to flee from pursuing police afterwards forced her to skip the part about revealing her identity to the villain. Deciding not to go see Kazuma this time, the princess asked Vanir to take her on more sightseeing, and became astounded by a small fiesta held in preparation for the upcoming Eris Appreciation Festival. While inquiring Vanir about the masks sold there, she heard him talk about the legend of the goddess Eris descending upon the festival in disguise, in addition to him hinting knowledge of her true identity. Later as dusk fell, Iris asked the noble-mannered Vanir to go work for her as well as tell his true identity only to be declined, though her mood was uplifted by the "Hachibei", before the royal retinue returned to the royal castle.[18]
Late Summer Arc[]
Still not giving up on seeing Kazuma, Iris armed with Something-calibur in addition to hiding her identity with a hood, sneaked out of the royal castle and all the way to Axel, where she became interested in some streetside skewers that merely cost a million eris each. Yet just as she was about to pay the amount, Megumin suddently burst out to stop the princess from being swindled. Later treating Megumin and Yunyun to the skewers at a nearby park, the princess under the alias "Illis" heard about them trying to recruit members for their own bandit band whose purpose is to support the Silver-Haired Thief Brigade. Iris thus volunteered to join in, though Megumin required an entry test before she would let the princess become her left hand girl.[20]
Asked to fight a Giant Toad on the grasslands outside the city, the royal girl easily bisected it from afar with Exterion, then did the same to a One-Punch Bear in the forest. Next requested by Megumin to try fighting unarmed, Iris proceeded to blast away a tribe of Goblins as well as the nearby Beginner's Bane with a Sacred Lightning Blare. She was thus considered to have passed the first round of tests, though during the second test entailing the display of common sense, the princess failed dismally when asked to buy fruit. Finally granted provisional membership as a lowly lackey thanks to Yunyun's pleading, Iris then challenged the others for leadership of the band, only to back down once Megumin cited her adult relationship with Kazuma.[20]
She accordingly followed Megumin to a real estate broker for renting the best property in the city to serve as their base, and deftly handed the reluctant man the millions of eris needed for the rent in addition to displaying her royal pendant as lessee identification, which ended up persuading him to approve the lease for free. Later finding the leased mansion even bigger than the royal vacation manor, Iris during Megumin's speech about them supporting the righteous noble thieves became moved to hear how the masked Kazuma had proclaimed determination to save the princess from harm, to the point she considered talking the king into cancelling the bounty on the noble thieves or pampering Kazuma. Accordingly told of their plan to recruit more members, Iris thought of recruiting the "Hachibei" from her prior visit only to have Megumin veto the idea.[20]
The princess afterwards became uneasy because Megumin brought them to enact their first raid on some noble's mansion without evidence of its owner's wrongdoings, before the band was discovered by Claire. Disturbed by her retainer's knowledge of her personal details, Iris in vain tried to get permission for visiting Kazuma, and so upon being hugged by Claire, retaliated by giving the knight a crushing bear-hug. But just before she had to dejectedly go back to the royal capital where the scrutiny at the Teleportiation station was to be heightened, the princess was secretly instructed by Megumin to sneak out of the royal castle whenever she hears the signal, which turned out to be an Explosion cast by her bandit leader soon after return.[20]
Sneaking out onto the streets with a lot of food prepared by the maids assisting her escapade after an Explosion rocked the royal capital on the following day, Iris was led by Yunyun to outside the city where Megumin lay exhausted. Picking up her leader, Iris had Yunyun Teleport them back to Axel for escaping their pursuers, then set up a picnic beside the riverhead lake, where Megumin who enjoyed the food promoted her to manage provisions.[21]
Accordingly invigorated by the bandit leader declaring the royal castle as the capital branch for their band, Iris followed the others to the local church of the Axis Order for a job request that its manager had filed with the Guild. Puzzled at Megumin permitting her to attack with impunity if necessary, she offered to pay Cecily for the pottery broken by her leader upon opening the church door, before Megumin explained how the Priest had planted the pottery there for blackmailing unsuspecting visitors and advised Iris not to address Cecily in overly intimate references.[21]
Next shocked by the Priest presenting Megumin with some banned powder that she had made improvements upon, the princess angrily drew her sword on Cecily for endangering the kingdom, until she explained that those were simply a modified breed of Gelatinous Slime. Accordingly apologising after a scolding from the Priest, the bandit band followed the Priest to Axis Order's stall for selling the Gelatinous Slime under a rebranded name, where Iris was thrilled at her first time earning money by simply handing the powder to customers, though thanking Cecily for the happy experience somehow made the Priest feel guilty.[21]
Returning to the church only to discover the food thief having struck again, Iris pointed out an oily stain on the kitchen floor as a possible clue, only to hear that it was caused when Cecily had an accident with making tempura. Anyhow following along as the Priest went to interrogate possible suspects, the princess upon witnessing Cecily harass a butcher whom she held a grudge against apologised in her place, but had her eyes covered by Yunyun when the Axis Priest started stomping on the door of the local Eris church, which the two of them accordingly had to stop Cecily from graffiting on.[21]
The gang afterwards returned to the Axis church, where they witnessed the Gelatinous Slime collection by Cecily having dragged itself out of the refrigerator and into the vegetable patch to feed on the harvest. After stopping Megumin and Yunyun from scolding Cecily for her snack being the actual theft culprit, the princess asked about the teachings of the Axis Order, only to have her ears blocked by Yunyun. Disappointed because Claire afterwards caught up to her, Iris while being ushered back home promised to see the others on the following day.[21]
The princess later told her father about setting up a league for justice with her friends, and was permitted by the pleased king to utilise as many knights and as much money as she needed for their endeavour. During the band's ensuing meeting, Iris asked for them to recruit more members so they can go adventuring, only to have the topic slide off towards Megumin's romance troubles.[22]
After the topic went back to them recruiting new members, Iris vied for a front-liner, then brought up the romantic story about the former Dragon Knight Lain Sheyka now rumoured to be an adventurer in Axel after kidnapping his kingdom's princess for a week, and proceeded to follow her leader towards the Guild in search of him, though on the way Megumin's bragging of her intimate relationship with Kazuma vexed the princess. She afterwards became disappointed to hear from Luna that no adventurer in Axel matched all the descriptions of the former Dragon Knight, while the people who matched part of the descriptions turned out to be an old retired adventurer, a spearthrowing athlete, and Dust, the last of whom she remembered to be the criminal beaten up by Claire.[22]
Iris accordingly went with Megumin to recruit Chris who the princess found to look familiar, and heard from her that the drunken Dust was the former Dragon Knight they were looking for, something the martial princess found looked true based on the spearwielding strides which the powerful delinquent was purposefully hiding, but became embarrassed when it turned out that Dust was hurting from trying to literally get "cockier". She anyhow became impressed by the delinquent selflessly extracting recyclable refuse from an unsorted rubbish pile, until he kicked the remaining rubbish all over the place in frustration over receiving little money from selling the recyclables.[22]
Further witnessing him perform more acts of scumminess that she initially misunderstood as nobleness, during a meal that Chris treated Dust and the others to at the Guild, Iris was shocked to hear Megumin recite Kazuma committing all kinds of sexual harassments on his party members and the Thief. After Megumin explained their purpose to Dust, the princess directly asked if he was capable of wielding the spear, only to have Claire interrupt the conversation and take her back home.[22]
She nevertheless sneaked out again some days later, and this time wandered the streets of the royal capital alone. Finding some meat skewers merely sold at merely 100 thousand eris apiece, the princess was about to buy some when Dust stepped in to stop the scam. Iris immediately accused him with the crime of disappointing her during the bandit band's search for the Dragon Knight, something Rin apologised to her for.[19]
After the girls excitedly talked about the rumours surrounding Lain Sheyka, the martial princess citing Dust's ingrained stride inquired if he actually wielded a spear, then became surprised when he admitted to wielding one hidden between his legs. Next finding Rin's face to look familiar for some reason, Iris talked more about the former Dragon Knight, and took badly Dust's unflattering depiction of real-life nobles as well as his warning about Claire on her trail. Faced with the pair contemplating turning her in, the princess begged for them to let her run free, and secured Dust's help by offering him her signet ring.[19]
Accordingly taken to see the less savoury aspects of the royal capital, Iris was shown a ripoff bar which she made a note to warn Kazuma about, and witnessed Dust whom she found in many ways similar to her big brother blackmail a scam art exhibition that tried to lure victims with free tickets. Anyhow glad at being able to freely walk around, the princess confirmed Dust's eyes to be red unlike the blue ones possessed by Lain Sheyka. Happily walking around other street stalls with Rin, she was upon dusk falling asked by Dust to go home, and despite being reluctant with doing so, Iris noticing Claire charging over calling for the arrest of the delinquent had to hinder her retainer in order to cover for the escape of Dust and his girlfriend.[19]
Although unable to attend an assembly of the bandit band because she had to attend a ceremony, for the next assembly Iris sneaked out at a set time to meet with Yunyun instead of relying on the Explosion signal. Taken back to Axel where the Crimson Demon impressed the princess by leading her window shopping, she was found by Megumin before being asked about what she wants, so Iris began stating how she wanted to become lovers with Kazuma, only to get cut off.[23]
Back at their mansion base, the princess was at the ensuing assembly reminded by Megumin that the bandit band was established for supporting the Silver Haired-Thief Brigade instead of going on adventures, then suggested raiding the residences of nobles on the royal watch list anyhow and having the King apologise if nothing was found, only for Megumin to veto the idea. Later at the assembly on the following day, Iris heard that House Donnelly whose forest manor Megumin decided to raid had potentially been using a Divine Item for randomly summoning monsters, prompting her to voice determination at getting to the bottom of this possibly dangerous matter on behalf of the royal family, the last part of which she subsequently denied saying when questioned by Yunyun.[23]
Accompanying the band to check out the manor only to be surprised at seeing a horde of monsters laying siege to it, her intent of jumping to the rescue despite the order to lay in wait gnawed at Iris until Megumin finally proclaimed their intervention, so she helped deal with the straggler monsters in the aftermath of the ensuing Explosion. Accordingly shocked by the ungrateful response of Karen to their rescue, Iris eventually backed down when Chris told them to leave the matter for the Silver-Haired Thief Brigade to deal with.[23]
At some point during the period, the martial princess hoping to go on an adventure now that she had gotten tired of playing kicking the can, brought out during a bandit band assembly with Megumin and Yunyun a stack of reports about potential threats to society sighted around Axel, only to learn in embarrassment that they were all trivial nuisances caused by people whom she knew.[24]
Because word came from the Kingdom of Elroad about them considering cutting the military funding to Belzerg and thus endangering the war effort against the Devil King's Army,[1] the princess was forbidden from seeing Kazuma in case she was needed for emergencies, so the disgruntled Iris shut herself up inside her bedroom, until one night Claire and Rain came knocking. Initially rebuking the former because she won't relent on the ban, Iris quickly cheered up and stepped outside once the latter who wore a mask similar to that of Vanir's spoke of them having gone on an adventure at Axel earlier that day. Feeling the need to bathe from spending time inside the bedroom for so long, the princess accepted Rain's suggestion for them all heading to bathe where they could share adventurer stories. Pushed towards the bathroom and accordingly undressed by the excited Claire, she told the somehow dawdling Rain still wearing the mask to strip her clothes off too,[4] following which Iris became puzzled by the wizard acting dazed and confused after taking off the mask.[25]
During a break in duties on the following day, the princess tried on the mask gifted by Rain before masquerading in front of the mirror as the Silver-Haired Thief Brigade like she thought Kazuma would do. Accordingly going back to worrying over the cutting of military funding from Elroad, Iris made up her mind to petition Levy as his fiancé into reinstating the aid, while also pondering the risk of Kazuma being taken by his pretty party members as well as his reaction to the news of her already being betrothed. Iris next muttered about wishing to flying away on a Dragon much like the princess in the tale of the former Dragon Knight, if not for her duty of protecting the kingdom from the Devil King's Army. Casting one more glance at the Dragon steed of the Dragon Knight emissary who had arrived from the Kingdom of Brydle, the princess took off the mask so she could go bathe.[25]
After the end of another tiring day of meetings, Iris on the ensuing night went onto her room's balcony yearning to go play with the others in Axel, when the emissary atop his steed flew up inviting her on a ride. Accepting the offer because her retainers were too busy dealing with some commotion in the city, the princess enjoyed the thrilling sight of the capital and the surrounding countryside from high above. Soon taken back to the royal castle before somebody discovered her missing, she thanked the emissary for relieving her of stress, and was in turn advised to seek assistance from others if needed.[25] The princess afterwards went to thank the emissary again, only for him to have no idea of what she was talking about, at which Iris noticed that the emissary's physical build was actually different from the Dragon Knight who took her on the ride.[26]
