One day, Subaru is busy helping Rem tend to the garden in place of the ill Ram, to the amusement of Puck and Emilia, when a creature looking like a giant rainbow-coloured frog appears. Initially dismissing it, Subaru is surprised when the creature extends its long tongue to grab and swallow all four of them.
Waking up covered in slime with the others at the gates of an unknown city, Subaru hears Puck explain that they had been transported by Teleport Magic inside the creature's stomach to a place that is not Lugunica. They are next astonished by an approaching swarm of flying Cabbages, which the Explosion of Megumin promptly blasts down. As Megumin collapses and Aqua hurriedly gathers the downed Cabbages for dinner, Kazuma notices Subaru, who is astounded by the flying vegetables, wearing a jersey just like a reincarnate does. Hearing Megumin claim that flying cabbages and grown anchovies are common knowledge, Puck who is told of them currently situated at Axel next notices Kazuma and Aqua's reaction to Subaru's grumbling over them eaten by a rainbow frog, thus pressures the pair for answers. Subsequent to Darkness starting the introductions, Kazuma who is ascertained of Subaru also being a reincarnate invites them all to his mansion.
It turns out that a few days ago, Kazuma's party accepted a quest to check if the magical barrier around an ancient forest, from which nobody had ever returned and said to contain a doorway to another world, was still keeping monsters out. Yet upon being startled by the appearance of a Beginner's Bane, Megumin cast an Explosion that blew up both the monster and the magical barrier. A Rainbow Giant Toad then appeared telling of its brethren in the other world now awakening because the seal was broken, before disappearing into the wilderness.
As Puck reasons that the Rainbow Giant Toads in both worlds are the doorways linking them together, Subaru calls out Kazuma's party as the culprit for this disturbance, prompting Kazuma to quickly apologise in place of the unrepentant Megumin. After Subaru reassures Emilia who is worried about not making it to the Royal Selection, Kazuma's party agree to help them find a way back. Meanwhile, the Rainbow Giant Toad on a grassland in Lugunica is faced by a mysterious man with gaunt pale skin and dark green hair, whom it also grabs and swallows.

Aqua proudly presents the clothes she had made that copied the ones worn by the impressed Emilia and Rem, then for the sake of fun puts on Emilia's outfit, yet Megumin whom she requested to put on Rem's outfit feels displeased at its chest portion being too big for her. As Emilia comments on getting a break in this world, Aqua cites the teachings of the Axis Church advising her to enjoy life in the present.

Aqua entertains Emilia with Nature's Beauty as apology despite Subaru not seeing it so, while the others plan to look for and capture the Rainbow Giant Toad. The following day, Kazuma leads the gang through the peaceful town to the Guild for clues, though his jovialness at another Japanese reincarnate around is soon spoiled by the thought of Subaru having a princess and maid beside him instead of three weirdoes. He is further annoyed when his party members, upon Luna saying that the party will have to pay reparations for any damage caused by the still missing Rainbow Giant Toad, try to heap all responsibility onto him.
Rin suddenly bursts in asking for a Priest to help Dust, who had been barely conscious ever since meeting a green-haired man near Arcanletia. With Rem detecting the scent of witches on him, Puck realises the hand of the Witch's Cult in this. Rin then blurts out about that man being accompanied by a Rainbow Giant Toad, so Subaru and Emilia quickly ask her for details of the location.
Hurrying to the said location, the gang notices people brainwashed into cultists by the green-haired man, behind whom the Rainbow Giant Toad sits. Because Emilia wants to rescue the brainwashed people first, Kazuma decides to use the location's proximity to Arcanletia. As the man spreads Sloth to the cultists and implores the Rainbow Giant Toad to send him back, he is challenged by Subaru's team, to whom he refuses to hand over the Rainbow Giant Toad.
Kazuma thus signals Aqua to call on Cecily and other Axis Followers to fight the Witch Cultists, during which they head towards the Rainbow Giant Toad still coveted by the babbling Petelgeuse. Seeing his refusal to comply, Kazuma's party and Subaru's team proceed to fight him.
Facing a tough battle because of the Unseen Hands summoned by Petelgeuse, Kazuma instructs Aqua to drown the area with Sacred Create Water, making the Unseen Hands visible. He accordingly tells Megumin and Emilia to cast Explosion and Al Huma through the hands at Petelgeuse, but the combination of the two magic spells causes a wider explosion of vapour that takes out the Rainbow Giant Toad.
Just as Kazuma and Subaru panic, Puck notices the Rainbow Giant Toad dissolving into glowing particles of light, which upon enveloping Petelguese send him back to their world. Subaru's team thus hurriedly run into the particles, and express their partings before being sent back. Reminiscing on the adventure beside another fellow reincarnate, whom he had asked to support Emilia, Kazuma's mood is darkened when Aqua asks to borrow money for treating the Axis Followers to meals.
Subaru soon wakes up in his bedroom, where Rem tells him that he had been dreaming after he fainted when tending to the garden. As Emilia and Puck also show up to check on him, Subaru blurts out his determination to support Emilia, just like somebody he cannot remember had asked him to do.
