May Love Reach Out to This Ghost Girl! (この幽霊少女に愛の手を!, Kono Yūrē Shōjo ni Ai no Te wo!) is the sixteenth chapter of the KonoSuba manga series, and covers Chapter 3 in Volume 2 of the light novels.
Summary[]
Following another card game at night which Aqua again loses, she tells her companions how the mansion is filled with low-level evil spirits that are scared of her, before recounting the life story of the ghost girl haunting the mansion once owned by a nobleman, though the others find the tale dubious.
Afterwards, a Kazuma hopeful about them able to survive through winter goes to sleep. Some hours later, he wakes in the middle of the night needing the toilet, only to see a doll that moves approaching him with a wine bottle. Fleeing to Aqua's room for help, all Kazuma finds inside is a cowering Megumin, who like him needs the toilet too. Unable to expect aid from Aqua or Darkness, the two of them quarrel over how to relieve themselves, until they are scared out by the doll hanging outside the window.
Finally making it to the toilet, Kazuma had to sing when Megumin uses it to cover the noise. They then hear a sound outside the door to the hallway, so Kazuma attempts to make a break for it when Megumin starts chanting, only to discover that it is Aqua who had already purified all the Ghosts. She proceeds to tell them Anna who had possessed the doll had secretly drank her treasured bubbly, sending her on a rampage against the evil spirits throughout the mansion, though she left the girl unharmed as she is only trying to seek company.
The following day, Kazuma and Aqua collect the rewards for purging Ghosts at the Guild, but upon the receptionist lady explaining that Ghosts keep infesting the mansion because somebody cast a magic barrier that prevents them from entering the nearby public cemetery, Kazuma realises the whole ordeal to be Aqua's doing, so Aqua confesses she had set the barrier to avoid purifying the cemetery every once in a while. Later explaining the situation to the realtor, Kazuma is instead granted permission to continue living at the mansion for keeping Anna company, following which Wiz visits Anna's grave in the mansion yard as it is being cleaned by the party.
Characters[]
Differences to other versions[]
- The manga adds a part about the party playing cards but skips the part about them first cleaning up the dusty mansion, which in the light novel occurs after Aqua narrates Anna's life story.
- Aqua in the light novel alerts the others before they fall asleep when she screams about her treasured bottle of wine getting drank up by a Ghost.
- Kazuma after getting wakened the noise made by the moving doll also finds himself rendered immobile in the light novel, until the fright from seeing the possessed doll shocks him back into motion.
- Instead of many dolls possessed by the wandering spirits infesting the mansion, in the manga there is only one doll that is possessed by Anna, which unlike in the light novel carries a wine bottle around.
- Darkness in the light novel accompanies Aqua on her hunt for the possessed dolls, instead of sleeping through the whole ordeal like in the manga.
