Summary[]

Summoned by the Guild which is asking mages to examine the sword of Shack the Ripper, Megumin explains to Kazuma about the serial criminal who targeted women by only slashing away their clothing. As the Guild employee elaborates how the enchanted sword appears blunt when wielded by Warriors, Dust, Keith, and other adventurers test it out on a captured Neroid brought back in chains by a female adventurer, much to her dismay.

After Kazuma too fails to cause any injury to the Neroid, Megumin as she swings the sword effortlessly slices a table in half. Proceeding to cut the chain holding the Neroid and allowing it to escape, Megumin next slices a variety of objects the other adventurers ask her to test on. The Guild employee accordingly asks Megumin to perform a special quest for testing the sword's sharpness and source of power, prompting her to slice even more things people want her to cut open.

As the two of them head outside later on, Kazuma queries Megumin if she has decided to leave the Explosive Path now that she is flattered from being called a Master Swordsman, at which she asks him to stand witness for her battle against Giant Toads. But just as she charges the amphibians, the Guild employee comes rushing to tell Kazuma how after investigating Shack's hideout, they discovered that although the sword can expend the wielder's magical power to cut objects including clothing with extraordinary sharpness, it is incapable of cutting living things. Megumin as expected ends up eaten by a Giant Toad, a sign she afterwards sees as punishment for her straying from the Explosive Path.

Differences to other versions[]
