May There Be an Invitation for This Brazen Layabout! (このふてぶてしい鈍らに招待を!, Kono Futebuteshii Namakura ni Shōtai wo!) is the thirty-fourth chapter of the KonoSuba manga series, and covers Chapter 2 in Volume 4 of the light novels.

Cover[]

Yunyun offers a fruit to the carriage driver.

Summary[]

While basking in the prospect of not having to work again, Kazuma and Aqua suggest hiring adventurers with their fortune to defeat the Demon King for them or outright sending assassins, to Megumin's disgust and Darkness' adoration. At Kazuma reiterating his fatal neck injury, Megumin suggests they take a recuperating trip to Arcanletia, the city of water and hot springs, an idea which interests both Kazuma and Aqua.

After packing up his baggage the following morning, Kazuma detours to Wiz's Shop in order to notify Vanir about the trip. He then hears of how Wiz got zapped unconscious by Vanir's Special Heat Ray because she purchased a tonload of faulty magical portable toilets, following which Vanir offers to have Kazuma take Wiz on the trip where there will be a great oppportunity in the mixed baths, so that in the meantime he can set the shop back on track.

Carrying Wiz on his back to meet his companions at the carriage terminal, Kazuma explains the situation to them and the stirring Wiz. They then determine who will be sitting on the luggage compartment outside the carriage through several rounds of rock-paper-scissors, with Aqua ending up losing despite her Blessing herself, following which the caravan sets out from their city.

On their carriage which has one seat occupied by a pet Red Dragon baby owned by some nobleman, Kazuma finds the trip enjoyable, until he spots with Second Sight the dust cloud kicked up by something a distance from the highway, which the driver reckons are Dashing Hawkites doing their "Chicken Race". As the Dashing Hawkites clearly show signs of heading for his carriage, Kazuma realises that Darkness' hard body is attracting them.

After the caravan stops so the adventurers hired as guards can fight the approaching monsters, Kazuma with a guilty conscience also takes his party to join the fight. However, the excited Darkness charges straight at the flock, and jumps into the Bind unleashed by another adventurer so that she can get tied up, prompting Kazuma to secretly apologise at the other adventurers, who mistake Darkness as noble and self-sacrificing, for his Crusader's perversion.

Characters[]

Differences to other versions[]

  • In the light novel, Megumin pesters Kazuma into taking quests right after hearing the reason he is acting like a rich man.
  • The manga skips the part about Kazuma, who had packed up early on the morning of the trip, getting told to go occupy a good carriage seat while Aqua wakes the other girls, as well as him later Drain Touching Darkness to recharge the disappearing Wiz at the carriage terminal.
  • The gang in the light novel discovers at the terminal that one seat in their carriage is occupied by the baby Red Dragon.
