May There Be Salvation from This Strange Incident! (1) (この怪しい事件に救援を！①, Kono Ayashii Jiken ni Kyūen wo! 1) is the thirty-eighth chapter of the KonoSuba manga series, and covers Chapter 4 in Volume 4 of the light novels.

Summary[]
The next morning as they eat breakfast, Aqua tells the others how it took her a long time to purify the sacred bathing spring during the previous day due to it being seriously contaminated, which she reckons is a result of sabotage by the Demon King's Army for bankrupting the Axis Church. As Kazuma who links the incident to the scheme of the man he overheard in the springs yesterday mulls over whether he should tell the others of it, Aqua asks for her companions' help in saving the town. Megumin though refuses to have anything to do with the terrifying Axis Church, while Kazuma also declines in fear of having to fight the two powerful people he met in the springs, leaving only Darkness to help Aqua.
With Wiz finally recuperated from Aqua's tears last night that at one point made her see her former adventurer party members across the river, Kazuma invites her to join Megumin's daily routine outside the town. As they with Chomusuke in tow walk through the streets, Kazuma asks Wiz her reasons for becoming a Lich, a tale which Wiz promises to tell one day when Aqua and her former rival Vanir are also present, before refusing to devulge her actual age. Megumin then asks if Wiz knows of any busty woman other than her in the Demon King's Army who can use Explosion Magic, though Wiz says that she isn't sure. Later when they reach the lakeside, Kazuma spots in the distance the man who plans to destroy the Axis Church, so in an attempt to avoid trouble, he drags Wiz who finds the man familiar away.
Out in the forests where monsters avoid the trio, Megumin randomly fires off her Explosion, which she finds out following Kazuma recharging her had taken out some Kobolds. Wiz however notices, to Kazuma's horror and Megumin's joy, a Beginner's Bane attracted to them by the Explosion, and so to the others' surprise walks up and lets the feline pounce on her. The Beginner's Bane subsequently collapses due to various status conditions resulting from touching a Lich, which reminds Kazuma and Megumin of how powerful Wiz actually is.
Returning to the town, the three of them discover Aqua accompanied by Darkness preaching with a magic megaphone at the fountain for her followers to not use the hot springs the Demon King's Army had been poisoning, yet in addition to calling her out for turning their hot springs into pure hot water after she went around purifying the contaminated springs, the townsfolk do not believe her even when she reveals her goddess identity. Chased back to the inn, Aqua cries at night over the danger facing her followers, so Kazuma agrees to help her bring the matter to the local Guild tomorrow.

- Kazuma in the light novel finds out about Wiz nearly getting purified by Aqua's tears when the said goddess mentions it during breakfast.
