May There Be Salvation from This Strange Incident! (2) (この怪しい事件に救援を！②, Kono Ayashii Jiken ni Kyūen wo! 2) is the thirty-ninth chapter of the KonoSuba manga series, and covers Chapters 4 to 5 in Volume 4 of the light novels.

Summary[]
Leaving Wiz to standby at the inn as Kazuma's party head out to find the poisoning culprit, Aqua shows her companions the questionnaires she had sent to various hot springs inns, which indicate that other than herself as she went around purifying the contaminated springs, the man with dark skin and brown hair who Kazuma had eavesdropped on was the most frequently seen figure. After confessing how he had the other day overheard the scheme to bankrupt the Axis Church through sabotaging the hot springs, Kazuma is grilled by the furious Aqua, yet just as the irate Megumin and Darkness gang up on him, they hear the townsfolk panicking about poisoned water appearing in the hot springs all over the town.
Back at the inn, Aqua having purified the contaminated springs reckons that the culprit had been poisoning the main spring in the mountains behind the Main Cathedral, and calls for the gang to go catch him there. The followers of the Eris Church guarding the gates leading to it, however, try to stop them according to the orders of the old man in charge of spring maintenance when he passed through moments ago, at which Kazuma with Megumin's assistance pulls out Darkness' family crest to pressure the guards into letting them enter.
As Wiz comes to grips with Darkness being a noblewoman, who in turn gets duped by her companions into scouting ahead, they come across the freshly dissolved remains of a Beginner's Bane, raising concerns regarding the old man who had just passed through. The gang soon discovers a distribution pond, all black with poison, that Aqua sticks her hand in to Purify, at which Kazuma and Wiz have to Freeze her scalded hand.
After Aqua manages to clean away the poison in the pond, Megumin sees beside the source reservoir at the top the man they are looking for. While the man tries to explain, Wiz unwittingly reveals him to be Hans the mutated Deadly Poison Slime, who she had met before at the Demon King's Castle. Kazuma and his party proceed to stop Hans from leaving, yet when Kazuma confidently challenges the Slime, he discovers that Hans is one of the Demon King's Generals.

Differences to other versions[]
- The party in the light novel first has to go around retrieving Aqua's questionnaires from the various inns.
- In response to the girls furiously ganging up on him for keeping his eavesdropping of Hans' scheme secret, Kazuma in the light novel retaliates by Drain Touching Megumin, Creating Earth and Water on Aqua, and Freezing Darkness.
- In the light novel, the party following their brawl reports Hans to the local branch of the Guild, where using Darkness' noble identity they pressure the employees into putting the culprit on the wanted list, yet later at the inn they get a report from the Guild about poisoned spring water appearing all over town.
- Kazuma in the light novel offends Darkness and Aqua over their intelligence, which in turn sparks a scuffle involving pizza.
- Instead of thinking Aqua to be the number 2 girl at the red light district, the Eris followers in the light novel recognise her as the one who kept purifying the hot springs.
- The girls in the light novel taunt Kazuma for running out of breath during the hike because of his low level, followed by the gang taking a break before reaching the contaminated distribution ponds, which Aqua later purifies several of.
- The manga omits the part where Kazuma while challenging Hans claims that he was staring at Wolbach to make them lower their guard, in addition to the girls making snide comments about his "declarations of might".
