May There Be a Resolution to This Grave Letter! (この由由しい手紙に決断を!, Kono Yuyushii Tegami ni Ketsudan wo!) is the forty-third chapter of the KonoSuba manga series, and covers Chapter 1 in Volume 5 of the light novels.

Summary[]

After Yunyun confirms that she wants to bear Kazuma's child, Megumin bashes the shamelessly complying Kazuma with the chessboard to the shock of Aqua, while Darkness frantically calls for Yunyun to reconsider.

Yunyun, subsequent to Megumin and Darkness beating up Kazuma who thinks he is in popular mode, shows the party a letter she had received from her father, claiming that the entire Crimson Magic Village had been wiped out by the Demon King's Army, and according to prophecy only a son between Yunyun and a "lowly" adventurer could avenge them. The latter portion though actually turns out to be simply a fiction penned by Arue, which was sent in the same envelope as the letter for saving on postage.

As Kazuma wails in sheer disappointment, the embarrassed Yunyun leaves an indifferent Megumin and returns to the village, much to Kazuma's consternation. Later that night, Megumin visits Kazuma's room and tells him of her decision to check in on the village as well out of concern regarding her sister, so the next day Kazuma announces to the others how they will fulfill her tsundere wish without actually doing any fighting.

Since the village is a couple of days' walk from Arcanletia, Kazuma asks Wiz who had registered that town as a Teleportation destination to Teleport them there, which puts them ahead of Yunyun who took the carriage. As Kazuma consults the guide map of the trail filled with many dangerous monsters while the party walks, they come across an injured little girl sitting all by herself.

Differences to other versions[]

  • Aqua in the light novel offers a peculiarly shaped stone to Megumin in exchange for her undoing a move of their boardgame match, only to have the Archwizard flip the board in frustration over Kazuma's claim of being in popular mode.
  • In the light novel, Kazuma on the day before the party leaves Axel takes the Megumin for an Explosion in the countryside, and later obtains a guide map of their route from the Guild.
  • The manga skips the details on the party's visit to Wiz's Shop, such as Kazuma buying a box for repelling Undead, a discussion about Anna, other dubious goods, Wiz's prior visit to the Crimson Magic Village, and Vanir's advice for Kazuma about making an important choice.
    • The part about Vanir's advice is adapted by the manga into a flashback during a later chapter.
  • A lot of explanation about the trip during the beginning of the trek is moved in the manga back to when the party in their mansion is still discussing whether to go.
  • The party is in the process of debating over their levels when they run into the girl in the light novel.
