May There Be a Good Reason for This Sleepless Night! (この寝苦しい夜に大義名分を！, Kono Negurushii Yoru ni Taigi Mēbun wo!) is the forty-eighth chapter of the KonoSuba manga series, and covers Chapter 4 in Volume 5 of the light novels.

Summary[]
As Darkness faces off against Sylvia, she expresses her disappointment at Orcs having only females and the Oni's sloppy attacks, before inciting the Demon King's General into making her submit, to the befuddlement of the Demon King's Army.
Kazuma followed by the other party members as well as Bukkororii's vigilantes then races to the scene, where he hears that Sylvia is a Demon King's General. Emboldened by all the Archwizards of the Crimson Magic Clan behind him, however, Kazuma starts bragging about how his party defeated Vanir, Beldia, Hans, and the Destroyer, though he identifies himself as Kyouya Mitsurugi in fear of reprisal. Sylvia accordingly orders a retreat as the vigilantes fire upon them, while Kazuma's companions make comments about his façade.
Following a recap of the battle from Komekko that night, Yuiyui who had left Hyoizaburoo sleeping in the workshop wants to have Kazuma sleeping with Megumin again. Kazuma then tells Megumin and Darkness to their exasperation that instead of going to fight Sylvia, they will be fleeing from the dangerous confrontation the first thing next morning. After taking a bath and running into Aqua who had just returned from the mixed-bathing bathouse in the village, Kazuma witnessess Megumin packing up to sleep at Yunyun's home, only to be Ankle Snared and put to Sleep by her mother like her father and Darkness had been.
Finding himself sleeping alongside Megumin in her Locked bedroom once more, Kazuma searches for excuses to make a move on her without being branded as a criminal, before Freezing the window over so that he can warm up to her and prevent her escape. He proceeds to calm Megumin down when she wakes, who to his surprise timidly reminises on their time together at Axel and then cuddles up with him. It however goes downhill when upon needing the toilet, Megumin discovers how Kazuma had Frozen the window, following which an attack from the Demon King's army occurs.

Differences to other versions[]
- Darkness utters her masochistic comments after the arrival of Kazuma and reinforcements in the light novel.
- Kazuma doesn't ask about Sylvia's identity at this point in the light novel, because he had already witnessed her in battle on the prior day.
- The manga adds some comments by Megumin and Aqua after Sylvia's retreat.
- While witnessing Megumin and Yuiyui arguing that night, Kazuma in the light novel also notices Darkness already put to Sleep.
- Megumin in the light novel reluctantly goes back to bed after discovering that Kazuma had Frozen the window.
