May There Be an Explosion for This Hateful Relic! (2) (この恨めしい遺物に爆焔を!②, Kono Urameshii Ibutsu ni Bakuen wo! 2) is the fifty-first chapter of the KonoSuba manga series, and covers Chapter 5 in Volume 5 of the light novels.

Cover[]

Megumin roasts a sweet potato as Komekko looks on, while not far away the Red-Eye Dead Slayers practise their poses.

Summary[]

While the Crimson Magic Clan launch all kinds of advanced spells at Sylvia, who tanks it all thanks to the effects of the Mage-Killer, Kazuma as Darkness goes to help them instructs Megumin to standby, before he and Aqua leave for the underground storage bunker.

Sylvia remains impervious to the magic attacks from the Crimson Magic Clan, who dodges the flames she breathes out through Teleportation. Soketto though charges at her with a sword as Bukkororii and his companions look on in horror, yet following a heartbreaking display of parting with him, she Teleports to safety, much to Sylvia's chagrin.

Rummaging through the underground storage bunker, Aqua and Kazuma are puzzled when they discover many old gaming machines from Japan, along with a notebook written in Japanese, which describes the ridiculous narrative of how their maker had used all of the research budget from the kingdom for making video games, so he tricked the bigwigs coming for an inspection by claiming that they are weapons that could destroy the world.

As Kazuma finds the author's tone familiar, they read ahead about him uncaringly setting the Mage-Killer into construction with the sloppy drawing of a dog, before he created the clan of genetically augmented red-eyed supermages that he named the "Crimson Magic Clan" in addition to the "Railgun (Temp Name)" looking like a drying pole which they had requested for countering the Mage-Killer. Going crazy when he realises that the author is the same Head Researcher Aqua had reincarnated to this world from Japan who created the Destroyer, Kazuma upon Aqua refusing to divulge her age speculates her to be an old hag, to the goddess' fury, before remembering the rifle used for hanging laundry at the clothing store.

Later on, with the villagers having used up their magical power and unable to Teleport, Yunyun marches out to challenge Sylvia as a distraction. Meanwhile, Kazuma and Aqua, having taken the Railgun from Cheekera's shop lugs it to where Megumin and Komekko as well as a Darkness who Sylvia refuses to attack are observing the battle from. Yunyun then shows Sylvia her Adventurer Card to prove that she cannot Teleport, before introducing herself in Crimson Magic Clan style.

Characters[]

Differences to other versions[]

  • In the light novel, Kazuma gives instructions to Megumin and Darkness after witnessing the gig by Soketto and Bukkororii.
  • Aqua in the light novel is the one who reads the diary which doesn't get ripped up afterwards, and later on she has a squabble with Kazuma when he stops her from playing with a Game Girl.
  • The manga omits the course of Kazuma and Aqua retrieving the Railgun, but adds the part where Sylvia gloats at some exhausted villagers prior to Yunyun stepping up.
