Summary[]

Waking up to remember how he had been taken to the Royal Castle last night, Kazuma is visited by Iris who asks him to address her casually, which he does as he excitedly stands up, only to reveal that he had been sleeping in his trunks, something he later explains was because he had no pajamas with him. He is then told of his role as Iris' playmate, so following some thinking into the matter, he sets out to play a boardgame with her. Playing until dusk in an attempt to rectify his losing streak without success, Kazuma throws a tantrum as he wants another round while Iris gets tired of it, which sparks an squabble between the two even when the irritated Claire comes telling them to go eat dinner.

The next day, Iris is taking history lessons from Lain about the royalty strengthening their bloodline by having heroes marry into the family, when a bored Kazuma flies a bamboo dragonfly outside her window, making Lain yell at him for distracting the princess. At dusk after Iris' lessons are over, Kazuma impresses her with a claim that bamboo dragonflies are magic items imbued with wind magic that can easily fly as many times as he wants, and agrees to gift it to Iris in exchange for her letting him win at the boardgame. Lain however spills the beans about bamboo dragonflies being simple toys, sparking a tantrum from Iris as she tries to retract the victory she had allowed Kazuma, while an exasperated Claire again comes along.

Playing boardgame on the balcony of Iris' bedroom the following afternoon, Kazuma asks if she had travelled to places like mountains and rivers, where strange things such as a Devil beloved by local housewives and a friendly Lich who survives on bread crusts exist. Iris who doubts it, however, laments that she has to be accompanied by knights or other escorts for security whenever going out. She goes on to express disbelief when Kazuma tells her of anchovies being grown in fields, something he had discovered when working at the bar hall. Proceeding to checkmate Kazuma while he is distracted, Iris reveals a smile from her heart at having so much fun.

A week since he arrived at the Royal Castle, Kazuma while lying in bed finds Iris becoming slier, and considers reestablishing his authority as a big brother when someone knocks on the door. Initially thinking that it is the maid Mary coming to change his sheets and proceeding to sexually harass her like nobles do, he is surprised to see instead his irate party members entering. As Darkness grills him while Aqua and Megumin look around the lavish bedroom, Kazuma gets riled up at having his sacred zone invaded. Darkness though calls him out for causing trouble and making Megumin worried sick, then as Megumin denies it makes to drag Kazuma back home from the castle he has no right to be in. The resisting Kazuma accordingly yells about being appointed as Iris' official playmate who had made her much more outgoing, while Darkness cites Claire who is worried about the bad influence he is having on the princess. She subsequently utilises force to overpower Kazuma without concern of him Stealing her clothes, when Iris walks in asking her to stop. Darkness thus describes how lecherous Kazuma really is to his anger, and pleads for Iris to return him so his friends in Axel won't get worried, which to Kazuma's great disappointment Iris agrees on.

At the royal banquet Iris throws that night for bidding Kazuma farewell, Aqua and Megumin shamelessly glut themselves on the feast in a manner that makes Kazuma who feels out of place among the royalty and nobility present more embarrassed. He soon spots a beleaguered Darkness being surrounded by young noblemen kissing up to her, to whom she responds with a practised noblewoman response in a great contrast with her usual conduct. Feeling vexed at her attracting a lot of handsome men, Kazuma approaches the group before addressing Darkness by her real name to her shock. Darkness thus emphasises to the noblemen how Kazuma is simply an adventuring companion with whom she doesn't have any special relationship, prompting them to start asking for her hand in marriage.

Just as Kazuma is about to tease Darkness again, the noblemen are declared to be unsuitable as Darkness' suitor by Alderp, who roars at Kazuma for blowing up his mansion and making him take residence at his home in the Royal Capital instead. Contrary to his usual obsession with Darkness, he next clarifies to the noblemen how with her having defeated multiple Demon King's Generals, neither him nor Balter qualify to be her suitor, and only Jatice the prince himself possesses enough martial exploits for being a match. But as the other noblemen agree in resignation, the annoyed Kazuma instead blurts out about his and Darkness' tryst, at which the horrified Darkness risks displaying her brute strength before the alarmed noblemen to twist his arm and shut him up.

Later sulking alone on the balcony over how he got vexed by Darkness' popularity since he is supposed to be the focus of the banquet, Kazuma is approached by Iris who expects herself to miss his presence despite Claire and Lain seeing him as an eyesore. She goes on to describe him as the only one who doesn't act apprehensive in front of her, before they both have a squabble over who won the most with the boardgame. Iris accordingly expresses her jealousy of Darkness because she can be close to Kazuma, making him consider performing some great feat in the capital so that he gets to remain in the castle as an indispensable asset. He next hears of Iris wishing to become an adventurer like the good thief who had become the talk of town, and upon further questioning is told of how this thief invades the residences of evil nobles to steal their wealth for donation to orphanages of the Eris Church, which in turn inspires the great idea of him capturing the thief.
