Cover[]

Aqua during the days of the stake out preached the Axis Church on the streets of the Royal Capital, something the multitude of Eris followers there weren't amused with.

Summary[]

As Chris reminds Kazuma as being the one who had taught him Thief skills and asks for him to stop touching her before she is further defiled, Kazuma apologises citing that he doesn't have a skill for capturing. Chris who offers to teach him Bind later on is shocked to hear of Darkness, from whom she wants to keep this a secret, also present in the building, then after scratching her face proceeds to explain everything. Yet Kazuma who wishes to stay out of trouble refuses to listen about what she likes him to assist with, instead talking her into fleeing by theorising the notoriously evil Alderp doing perverted things to her once she is captured. Agreeing to come back later despite Kazuma's protests, Chris complies with Kazuma's request to Bind him so that he will have an excuse for letting the good thief escape.

Kazuma's party members soon arrive to find him Binded on the kitchen floor, and hear him tell of the thief being a skillful masked man comparable with the Demon King's Generals, to the awe of Megumin. Aqua who has the ability to undo the Bind, however, starts apologising for various misdeeds she had committed on him, things that he is forced to forgive her for despite being infuriated.

Reporting the incident in one of the Royal Castle's audience rooms with his party members the next day, Kazuma is coldly sneered at by a mocking Claire for his failure to capture the thief and discretely criticised by the nobles present. Iris though sees it as Kazuma successfully stopping the thief from committing the theft, yet it still cannot prevent Claire from declaring Kazuma evicted from the castle.

As Kazuma who actually misses Iris gets consoled by his party members during their trek through the streets, the party is approached by a Mitsurugi delighted to see Aqua, although she forgets who he is while Kazuma calls him by the wrong name. Megumin and Darkness subsequently go shopping, leaving the three of them at a coffee shop, where Mitsurugi starts out with gifting a diamond ring to Aqua and angering Kazuma in the process. When asked about Fio and Cremea, Mitsurugi reveals that they are leveling themselves up at a neighbouring country where he won't be there to impede them, while he remains at the Royal Capital to help fight the Demon King's Army. Meanwhile, Aqua who finds the ring too small for her without hearing about its automatic resizing capability uses it for demonstrating her trick of making objects disappear for good, much to Mitsurugi's embarrassment.

When Aqua next starts folding napkins, Mitsurugi tells Kazuma of how Beldia who got vanquished at Axel was sent there because of because of the Demon King's soothsayers detecting a mysterious light over the town, and Vanir who was dispatched next to investigate later disappeared, followed by the recent defeat of Sylvia at the Crimson Magic Village, all of which were rumoured to be the handiwork of one certain party whom the Demon King had taken interest in. With Kazuma realising in terror who the said party refers to, Mitsurugi warns of more attacks on Axel where they are based at. He makes to depart after petitioning Kazuma to protect Aqua who is the source of the mysterious light, and is gifted by the goddess a napkin model of Eris with interchangeable chests. On their way back to their inn, Aqua who was described by Mitsurugi to be fitting well with Kazuma again forgets the name of the enchanted sword's owner in addition to what he told them about the Demon King's Army.

Waken from his sleep at the inn that night by Chris, Kazuma purposefully pretends to capture an intruder in order to grope her breasts. After chiding Kazuma over it, Chris again brings up the matter she wants his assistance with, only to have Kazuma block his ears in denial. Nevertheless, she starts explaining about the existence of Divine Items wielded by people with strange features and names like him, which Kazuma grasps are the cheat items brought by other Japanese reincarnates, yet subsequent to their owners deaths or disappearances, two of these items were purchased by some noble. Chris further elaborates about one of the items being capable of randomly summoning monsters for the user to command without paying a price, and the other being an item for switching the user's body with somebody else. Scratching her face again, Chris then elucidates how she tried to find those items by invading nobles' homes and utilising Sense Treasure, but instead discovered other loot, which she couldn't resist taking if they belonged to evil nobles. Hesitating when asked for the reason she has to seek the Divine Items, Chris goes on to reveal her detection of something divine at Alderp's home last night, though Kazuma dismisses it to be Aqua's hagoromo.

Finally entering the main topic, Chris who had detected a Divine Item's magic coming from the Royal Castle petitions for the assistance of Kazuma, since he knows Second Sight and various Thief skills useful for infiltration. Kazuma though refuses from horror at the thought of taking part in the crime, even when Chris who wants him to help retrieve the Divine Items before something awful happens threatens to wake Darkness. He manages to chase Chris off by threatening to use his newly learned Bind on her, and grumbling about his luck supposedly being high, offers to join the Eris Church if Eris the goddess of good luck will grant him a peaceful life without trouble.

Just as Kazuma tries going to sleep, he is wakened to his frustration by an alarm warning of another attack by the Demon King's Army. Darkness immediately bursts in with the other girls calling for them to assist with the defence, but Kazuma insists on sleeping and leaving the fighting to strong adventurers like Mitsurugi. Aqua too refuses to head for the dangerous warzone, contrary to Megumin who declares her reckless intent of vanquishing the Demon King's forces before the kingdom's troops even arrive and has to be restrained by Darkness. While Kazuma contemplates his lack of need to stick his head into the fight now that he is rich, he realises how performing some remarkable feat in this battle can recover his reputation from his failure to capture the thief and earn him the ticket back to the castle. Accordingly dressing up for battle allegedly to save the kingdom with a speed and manner that leaves his tussling party members speechless, Kazuma heads out so he can make his way to Iris' side again, only to find himself once more at the halls of Eris.

Differences to other versions[]

  • After seeing Aqua taking advantage of the Binded Kazuma's immobility in the light novel, Megumin and Darkness also follow suit by respectively pressuring him to repeat his cool evaluation of her Explosion and torturing him for embarassing her over the past week, forcing Kazuma to beg for help from Alderp once the lord arrives on scene.
  • In the light novel, Darkness and Megumin following Kazuma's eviction from the Royal Castle go looking for an inn to spend the night, while Aqua takes Kazuma to go shopping around for souvenirs before they run into Mitsurugi.
  • When Darkness responds in the light novel to the alarm warning of another attack on the Royal Capital, she first bangs on Kazuma's room door only to have him refuse taking any action, then has to tussle with Aqua and Megumin upon returning to the girls room until Kazuma makes up his mind to head out.
  • The manga skips the part where Kazuma and his party join the defenders' mustering at the Royal Castle's gates.
