Summary[]
As Kazuma struggles in befuddlement over the fact of him already having seen Eris in Axel, she gives him a hint about her taking on a different physical appearance and a more energetic speech pattern in the mortal world, though when she talks of having signed up for a Class other than Archpriest unlike Aqua, Kazuma starts making wild guesses involving female followers of Eris like Maris and Seris, who had beaten up Keith and Dust over them talking about the church's Priests and goddess having small breasts. He accordingly dogezas for the piqued Eris to tell him the answer so that he won't do anything rude to her unknowingly, only to have her bashfully mutter about him already having done something to her on their first meeting. Eris then proclaims her identity in the mortal world as a secret, and hurriedly pushes the curious Kazuma back to his Resurrected body, but not before Kazuma notices a familiar scar appearing on her face.
Kazuma wakes to Aqua screwing her face in disgust because of the slime from the Kowloon Hydra's stomach covering his naked body, and discovers that all his clothes and gear except for Chunchunmaru had been dissolved. As Megumin grumbles at Aqua over her calling the name of Kazuma's katana weird, Kazuma suggests leaving the Hydra for the knights to deal with even if they cannot kill it, while Darkness mopes at the side.
In the bathtub of the mansion that night, Kazuma reflects on him getting used to dying as he inspects if the important parts he had lost were really restored, when Darkness asks from outside the door if he is mad at her. Trying to placate the apologetic Darkness who is reluctant to reveal the reason she needs to defeat the Hydra now, he proposes making a new plan for fighting it some other day. Despite initially feeling apprehensive, once Kazuma starts goading her by citing her duties as a knight defending the people, Darkness slams open the door and declares her determination to slay the Hydra, before Kazuma's deadpanning reminds her about him still in the bath.
Several days later, Kazuma in the mansion is analysing how the rainy weather outside will favour the Kowloon Hydra in a battle, when Megumin and Aqua frantically run up to tell him about the news at the Guild regarding the knights, who are supposed to arrive from the Royal Capital for defeating the Hydra, unable to deploy because they are busy looking for the thieves who had raided the Royal Castle. While Kazuma guiltily looks at a wanted poster with a sketch of him and Chris in their thief outfits, Darkness reacts to the two hundred million eris reward amount, thus further worrying him about being sold out. Megumin, who is actually unwilling to see the masked thief captured, next informs them of a prominent fortune teller divining the culprit to be here in Axel, which in turn leads to the other adventurers in town looking all over for him.
Deciding to shut himself up at home for avoiding capture, Kazuma tells the frustrated Darkness to give up on slaying the Hydra. Darkness thus resolves to challenge it all by herself in hopes of wearing it down, and in spite of the rainy season empowering the Hydra, goes fighting it every single day, during which the monster learns to deal out more powerful attacks. Following a few days of seeing the stubborn Darkness returning to the mansion, each time wearing cracked armour, half-dead, and in dire need of Aqua's Healing, the party outright locks her inside her room. That however doesn't stop her from sneaking out, so Kazuma finally makes up his mind to take matters into his own hands.

Differences to other versions[]
- Darkness in the light novel is covered in blood from the Hydra while cutting her way out from its stomach, and Kazuma soon after Resurrection tries to cheer her up, before Aqua explains how her purification of the lake made the Hydra lay low for the time being.
- The part about Darkness barging into the bathroom with Kazuma still bathing is a manga-only feature.
- In the light novel, the party heads to the Guild soon after the failed attempt on the Hydra, which other adventurers berate Aqua and Megumin for because news came in about the knights being too busy looking for the Silver-Haired Thief Gang, who the receptionist lady petitions Kazuma to help capture.
- Kazuma shuts himself inside the mansion where Aqua sings lullabies to the egg of Emperor Zel during the ensuing days of rain in the light novel, so that Vanir whom the Guild had hired for help in divining the thieves' exact location in Axel cannot see him due to the divine aura of the goddess.
- Megumin in the light novel also joins Darkness during her first few daily challenges against the Hydra in hopes of avenging Kazuma, and after several days of Exploding its regenerating heads, returns to the mansion suggesting for repeated Explosions to overcome the heads' regeneration, though this cumulates in a squabble with Aqua who refuses to be Drain Touched again and Kazuma who is busy with petting Chomusuke.
- On the day when Darkness got swallowed by the Hydra in the light novel, Megumin who accompanied her explains back in the mansion how the monster was smart enough to launch a surprise attack, so Kazuma while the Crusader is bathing repairs her armour with Blacksmith.
- After deciding that it has become too dangerous to challenge the Hydra, the others in the light novel not just lock Darkness inside her room but also take turns standing watch at the door, only for the Crusader to sneak out when Aqua is dozing off, prompting Kazuma to have the two girls collect the battered Darkness on her way back while he prepares to head for the Guild.
