Aqua prepares a crab pot for her party to dine on.
Summary[]
Kazuma's party sans Darkness prepares a hot pot for celebrating their victory using the red speckled crab they had bought with their reward from slaying the Kowloon Hydra, because the Crusader had gone reporting the Hydra's defeat to Alderp. While Kazuma reflects on how lately Darkness had been acting strangely like during the prior celebrations with the other adventurers, Aqua and Megumin grumble over them having to abstain from feasting because of her absence.
Several days later, Aqua who continues to warm Emperor Zel's egg is shown the prototype of a stick of dynamite created by Kazuma, yet although the goddess praises his idea for introducing modern weaponry into this world, Megumin upon hearing of an item which allows people to replicate Explosions even without magic irately flings it out the window. She then expresses to a sulking Kazuma about her incredulance at the letter they had received earlier in the day, where Darkness who thanked them for all their happy adventuring days had declared her need of quitting the party because of noble matters.
Later on their way to the Guild, Megumin fumes at them being denied entry to the Dustiness family residence by the guards, before criticising Kazuma because he actually plans to recruit a new member for replacing Darkness. Kazuma thus offers to pay the nagging Megumin into returning home, yet Megumin insists on taking part in the member selection, which results in them unable to recruit anybody due to her bad reputation as a crazy explosion girl. Back out on the streets, Megumin suggests concentrating on bringing Darkness back, so Kazuma explains to her how their party has an urgent need for somebody like Warriors who can defend them from hordes of monsters. Dust having overheard them thus offers a team-up, since his own party members are taking time off after claiming the rich rewards from defeating the Kowloon Hydra, something which he got a reduced share of thanks to his reckless actions during the battle. Megumin initially displays her unwillingness, but subsequent to Kazuma's persuasion agrees to work with him.
Out in a farm some time afterwards where a bunch of adventurers are busy fighting the hordes of pests coming to eat the crops, Kazuma futilely Deadeyes some Adaman-Moises that are impervious to arrows, so Dust tells him to slow them down with magic while he stops them from entering the fields and buys time for Megumin the loli girl to finish her spell. Following some farmers like Joseph being injured by Bamboos as well as overrun by opportunistic wild boars and monkeys, Kazuma manages to stop the Adaman-Moises by Freezing them. Dust who defeats some monkeys then attempts stopping a boar's charge only to be knocked away, and subsequently more pests break past the adventurers into the fields. Therefore upon hearing Megumin declare the completion of her incantations, Kazuma calls for her to unleash an Explosion right in the middle of the farm.
The Guild's receptionist lady afterwards tells Kazuma to his bitter disappointment that his trio's rewards are quartered because the Explosion not only blew up the pests but also the crops, so Dust and Megumin try to cheer him up. Carrying Megumin back towards their mansion, Kazuma compares Dust with Darkness, and finds himself missing the Crusader who could have easily tanked the boar's charge, though he decides to continue teaming up with Dust.
The said Warrior frantically comes looking for him at his mansion the next day, clamouring about the huge awful news of Rin having a boyfriend, which Keith and Taylor reacted to nonchalantly much like Kazuma himself does. But when Dust cites how hard it is to see a female party member going off with some unknown guy, Kazuma who gets reminded of Darkness agrees to assist. Dust proceeds to tell Kazuma that after stalking Rin because she seemed to be acting cold towards him, he found her frequently entering an inn with an unknown man, and thus begs the troubled Kazuma to help him investigate the guy.
Characters[]
Differences to other versions[]
- The manga skips the parts at the Guild where the adventurers sans Darkness collect their rewards for defeating the Hydra, as well as the squabble between Kazuma and Aqua after Megumin brings up the Crusader's resignation letter.
- In the light novel, Megumin purposefully introduces herself as the crazy explosion girl to potential party members being interviewed by Kazuma so that they will all be scared away.
- Dust wears armour and carries a shield when defending the farm in the light novel.
- Kazuma thinking about the Bamboos is a manga-only feature.
