Darkness the bride happily leaves the church with a groom looking like Kazuma.

Summary[]

Outside the church of Eris where the marriage is being held, the guards of Alderp prohibit the crowds of gathered adventurers curious to see Darkness in bridal dress from entering. Meanwhile, the ceremony attended by nobles proceeds within the interior, with the forlorn Darkness walking down the aisle while Hagen leads her in place of the ailing Ignis. Enraptured by her beauty, Alderp as he approaches the altar alongside Lalatina can barely wait for the priest to finish the blessing, so he can enjoy her for days on end.

To everybody's utter surprise, the hooded priest hired by Hagen for the ceremony turns out to be Aqua, whose words of blessing are actually ridicule towards Alderp. As Alderp howls in outrage, Darkness yells at Aqua for committing the capital offence of interfering in a nobles' wedding, before the cloaked Kazuma beside Aqua throws away his disguise to tell the heiress off over her paying his debts for him. Alderp accordingly dares the poor commoner Kazuma to buy the indebted Lalatina from him with the amount of money she owes, so Kazuma does exactly that by scattering the 2 billion eris in the suitcase all over the church.

While Alderp is distracted by the money he and some other guests busy themselves with scooping up, Kazuma picks up Darkness in a princess carry before dashing for the exit with Aqua. Astounded from hearing how Kazuma sold the rights to all current and future intellectual property in addition to expending his entire savings so he could come up with the money, the protesting Darkness is told to repay him with her body, while Hagen wishes them luck.

Finally coming to his senses, Alderp orders his guards near the door to stop Lalatina from escaping. Just as Kazuma is about to fight through the crowd like he had done at the Royal Castle, the door behind the guards is cut away and knocks them down, revealing a posing Megumin and the apprehensive Yunyun who was goaded by friendship into assisting. With Megumin serving as the rearguard while she dismisses an upset Yunyun, the furious Alderp orders the guards outside to kill all of them except for Lalatina.

As Darkness asks to be let down, Alderp promises lavish rewards for the adventurers gathered around the church if they capture the fugitives, only for his cries to fall on deaf ears. Kazuma thus tells Darkness to stop stubbornly acting alone, since she ends up needing the other adventurers to aid her, just like the battle with the Kowloon Hydra. When he next ponders what to do against the numerous guards in his way, the impatient Megumin makes to release her pent-up magic, scaring the guards who know of her craziness into inaction despite Alderp's dismissals. She proceeds to really cast an Explosion right above their heads, stunning Alderp and sending the guards who cannot flee in time flying.

Sneered at by the girls for taking cover behind Darkness, Kazuma calls for them to make a break for it now that the way is open, so Megumin whom Aqua carries tricks Yunyun into staying behind to take care of the recovering guards. Although the guards contemplate grabbing Yunyun before she uses her magic, they are stopped when Keith suddenly bumps into them before falling onto the ground, hollering about the guards knocking him down and breaking his arm. When the guards deny any wrongdoing, Dust citing the oppression of the hated governor's lackeys decides to vent his hatred towards nobles on them especially after the hell a noble recently gave him, and along with the other adventurers beat the guards up.

Kazuma's party eventually stop running when they are far enough, then as Kazuma plans to treat Dust and the other adventurers to drinks later on, Darkness tearfully expresses gratitude to everybody who saved her. The others next ponder laying low for a while now that they are criminals, but Darkness tells them of somewhere she needs to go first.

Differences to other versions[]

  • In the light novel, Alderp walks down the aisle alongside Darkness, and later Kazuma internally writes to his parents about him picking a fight with the most powerful man in the area by kidnapping an heiress as he starts crashing the wedding.
  • While Alderp and some nobles are distracted by the money, Kazuma in the light novel gives Darkness a mental and physical meltdown by telling her that she belongs to him and has to repay with her body, then picks her up in a princess carry as he and Aqua dash towards the exit.
  • Hagen seeing the escaping Kazuma's party off is a manga-only feature.
  • As the trio flees for the door in the light novel, Aqua teases Kazuma over his "ownership" of Darkness, who jumps out of his hands and rips up her dress to tackle the first wave of Alderp's guards, before Kazuma mimics the governor's voice with the aid of Versatile Entertainer in order to trick the henchmen into picking up the money instead, though the three of them are accordingly faced with a second wave that Yunyun ends up taking out with a Light of Saber.
  • Megumin in the light novel has already charged up for Explosion Magic when making her appearance, shocking Alderp's guards into pleading for their governor not to agitate the crazy explosion girl, who after the other adventurers ignore Alderp, finds herself unable to hold back any longer before launching the Explosion into the sky.
  • When hampering the guards in the light novel, Keith grabs one of them with the arm he had claimed to be broken, prompting Dust to make allegations of the governor's lackeys rendering his friend crippled, before using one of them shoving him as an excuse to start beating the guards up.
  • The manga adds the part where the party takes a break upon successfully fleeing.
