Kazuma is shocked to witness Chomusuke flying in the air over the mansion's yard, though Megumin pays no heed when he tries pointing this out to her.
Summary[]
As a birthday present for Kazuma who frequently dies, Megumin makes a traditional protective charm of the Crimson Magic Clan that utilises the hairs of people with strong magical powers. Darkness after hearing about the characteristics and effects of the charm offers a strand of her hair, while in contrast Aqua refuses to do so until Kazuma forcibly plucks it from her head, though upon receiving the he charm worries if it will lower his intelligence or attract Undeads like the useless goddess.
Kazuma then refuses the enthusiastic Megumin and Darkness' requests for questing so that he can laze around for the rest of his life, and subsequent to reading the newspaper in order to ignore Megumin's attempt to entice him by expressing fondness, tries to resist her and Darkness' efforts to drag him outside by force, puzzling the clueless Aqua. But when muttering about retiring from adventuring and spending his time on checking out the newspaper which Aqua too wants to read, Kazuma notices a headline saying that the Royal Capital is in danger because a Demon King's General had taken to the front lines. The alarmed Darkness quickly reads the article, which talks about a fortress protecting the Royal Capital about to fall because of the fearsome magic wielded by the General known as the "Evil God". As Kazuma becomes concerned over the well-being of his sister while Aqua scoffs in indignation regarding the pretender of godhood, Megumin proceeds to read herself that article about the "Evil God" Wolbach.
Just as he prepares to sleep on the next morning following a night of gaming, Kazuma is rudely awakened by Megumin all pumping for heading to the Royal Capital so they can assist with the war effort. Reluctant to approach that place even when Megumin cites the safety of Iris whom she was supposed to be at odds with, especially since the Demon King's General claims to be a god like final bosses do, Kazuma expresses incredulence at Megumin claiming Chomusuke to be the "Evil God". Proceeding to sleepily wave off her offer to spend a night in his room because of the previous disappointments, he ends up awakened once the infuriated Megumin starts quarrelling with him.
Seizing on Kazuma becoming piqued by Mitsurugi being ranked third on the newspaper's adventurer rankings while he himself didn't get any mention, Darkness and Megumin again try to goad him onto the front lines, while Aqua who is busy teaching Emperor Zel tricks unexpectedly supports going to battle so she can teach a thing or two to that "Evil God". Megumin next pushes the beleaguered Kazuma by assuring him that he won't be needed unless something goes wrong, though she and the other girls quickly avert their eyes once Kazuma reiterates how things always went wrong thanks to the three of them. But just as Kazuma tells the girls to go by themselves, Yunyun carrying Chomusuke with her pays a visit to the mansion.
Characters[]
Differences to other versions[]
- The part about Megumin making the charm occurs in the light novel before she helped to make a "dragon" house, during which Aqua cuddles Emperor Zel and Darkness drinks tea.
- In the light novel, Kazuma prior to the girls trying to drag him off the couch, banters with Aqua who comments about him lazily drinking while refusing to work, then after Darkness and Megumin approach to make him go questing, he cites the antics of nobles to refute the former and expresses hypocritical sympathy towards monsters to counter the latter.
- Aqua has gone to get champagne glasses for Kazuma during his efforts to refuse questing in the light novel, then munching on lime upon return sparks a debate over how strong (or weak) Kazuma is compared to the girls.
- The part about the competition between Kazuma and Aqua teamed up with Darkness, which Megumin adjudicates and involves a quest against Goblins as well as a Beginner's Bane, is omitted in the manga.
- Kazuma reads the newspaper straight after it was delivered to the mansion on a day in the light novel when the girls have given up on dragging him to quests.
- Darkness in the light novel supports the idea of heading for the front lines because she is getting bored with processing paperwork, while Kazuma maintains that the other stronger adventurers in the Royal Capital are more than enough for its defence.
