Synopsis[]
Kazuma and Aqua meet Yunyun, a Crimson Demon girl who claims to be Megumin's rival. The feuding magic users then square off in a competition that could have ruinous repercussions for both of them.
Plot[]
As Kazuma and Aqua sit freezing in their mansion while worried sick about Darkness, Megumin asks for permission to keep a cat she calls Chomusuke, who is friendly to Kazuma but hostile to Aqua. Kazuma and Aqua explain Darkness would provoke Alderp to sexually abuse her and throw Megumin into a panic.
Sena hands Kazuma the task of subjugating the Giant Toads in the snowy grasslands around Axel because they were awakened by Megumin's repeated Explosions before the trial. Aqua is chased by a pink Giant Toad while the spent Megumin is swallowed by another one. Kazuma Snipes the one chasing Aqua, but this is too weak to kill it, so he uses his sword when it is busy swallowing Aqua. Three more Giant Toads of varying colours approach and gobble up Aqua and Sena. Just when Kazuma is about to be eaten too, Yunyun annihilates all of the Giant Toads with a Light of Saber, releasing the girls, now covered in smelly slime. Megumin pretends not to recognise her self-proclaimed rival who just saved her until she makes an embarrassing Crimson Demon style introduction. After Aqua and Sena take their leave, Megumin agrees to a contest in hand-to-hand combat. Yunyun admits defeat because Megumin is covered in slime, but Megumin still hugs Yunyun to get her all slimy.
On their way back Megumin hands Kazuma the Manatite she won from Yunyun. He tells Megumin she is prettier than Yunyun, so she gives him a slimy hug too. Back at the mansion, Kazuma and Megumin vie to be the first to bathe, and end up going into the bathtub together. By the time it occurs to them that this puts them in a compromising position, Aqua has returned from selling toad meat to the Guild, so Kazuma expends his magical power to Freeze the bathroom door shut. Aqua calls to Megumin but does not attempt to enter, so Kazuma voices relief that he will not be thought a pedophile (since Megumin is a preadolescent). This enrages Megumin, because she is sensitive about her age. Kazuma cannot move, having spent himself on Freeze, so he has to cry out to Aqua to save him from Megumin, and thus is branded a "loli-NEET" all the same.
The following day, Kazuma takes his companions to Wiz's Shop to discuss paying his debts. They find Yunyun waiting there for them. As Megumin recounts how Yunyun was a loner during their school days, Aqua notices a Friendship Crystal on sale. Yunyun challenges Megumin to use the crystal, which displays footage of their most embarrassing moments. Wiz explains that this is meant to create friendship between the users, but it instead inflames Megumin into smashing the crystal and claiming she has outgrown such childish competitions. This prompts Yunyun to challenge Megumin to a maturity contest, based on body development, but Megumin scoffs at this as a measure of maturity and brings up how she had bathed with Kazuma, causing Yunyun to run off in tears. Megumin logs this as another victory.

Differences to other versions[]
The first half of the episode is adapted from Volume 3, while the second half is heavily modified from parts of Chapter 1 & 2. Key differences include:
- Kazuma's offer to sell merchandise to Wiz was cut & combined with a later chapter.
- Chomusuke likes baths, unlike the light novel where she actively avoids it.
- Chomusuke is referred to as female instead of male like in the light novel.
- Chomusuke doesn't grill the fish Kazuma gave it.
- Kazuma's Snipe skill is introduced in the toad fight, rather than in Axel town to impress Yunyun by hitting a Winter Shogun doll.
- Sena was not eaten by Giant Toads in the light novels.
- Some of Yunyun & Megumin's dialogues were changed. In the original light novel it was implied they separated upon leaving the Crimson Magic Village for several years, leading to Megumin actually forgetting Yunyun. The Megumin spinoffs retconned this and had Yunyun & Megumin separating right before Megumin joined Kazuma's party. The anime follows this later version of canon.
- A chapter where Kazuma & Megumin meet Yunyun in the streets of Axel was cut. Instead the scenario occurs in Wiz's shop, combining it with a shortened version of the scene where Kazuma offers to sell merchandise to Wiz.
- New scenes exploring Yunyun's isolation & Megumin's starvation were added, also introducing the unnamed Komekko early.
