Sightseeing in This Pitiful City! (この
Synopsis[]
The party's trip proves to be an eventful one, with Kazuma's gang resolving almost as much trouble as they cause. But even reaching their destination doesn't prove to be much of a rest, when it becomes clear that Arcanretia is the home to a particularly troublesome religion...
Plot[]
The Running Hawkites proceed with their "Chicken Race" by charging straight at the bound Darkness before dodging over her at the last moment in a display that excites her and embarrasses Kazuma. Aqua casts Blessing on Darkness, and the other adventurers fight the Running Hawkites. With the Running Hawkites turning back for another run, Kazuma upon hearing about a cave in the vicinity tells his companions to board their carriage. Because Darkness is too heavy for him to carry, he has to settle for her suggestion of tying her to the carriage so she can be dragged along.
While their carriage races towards the cave with the Running Hawkites hot on their heels, Wiz sinks some of them with Bottomless Swamp as Aqua continuously Heals Darkness. Once they reach the cave, Kazuma with Powered strength tosses Darkness to its entrance, so the Running Hawkites all jump over her and enter the cave. Megumin blows up the trapped monsters with Explosion.
That night when the caravan sets up camp along the highway, Kazuma refuses the rewards from the impressed caravan leader for the sake of his guilty conscience. He repairs Darkness' armour using his Blacksmith Skills while Aqua and Wiz entertain the caravan. Some hours later, Kazuma and Darkness are waken from their sleep by approaching zombies. They head for Aqua, who purifies them and Wiz in a divine display with Turn Undead, which fascinates the rest of the caravan. Kazuma thinks the zombies were attracted to Aqua's divine aura, and thus secretly apologises to the caravan and refuses the offers of reward again.
Yunyun brings gifts to Kazuma's Mansion the next day only to find it empty. The caravan arrives at the city of Arcanletia, where Kazuma and his companions disembark, despite Megumin missing Jarippa. Kazuma carries the unconscious Wiz. Aqua informs them that Arcanletia is the headquarters of the Axis Order, the followers of which surround the party in an attempt to convert them until he points out Aqua is an Axis Archpriest. After they check in at the inn owned by the caravan leader, Aqua takes Megumin to the Main Cathedral of the Axis Order as Kazuma revives Wiz through Drain Touch before she joins Beldia across the river.
Leaving Wiz at the inn to recuperate, Kazuma and Darkness walk around the city, where Axis followers, utilising all sorts of hardsale con tactics, try to make Kazuma convert. They spit in disgust whenever Darkness reveals herself to be a follower of the Eris Order, which charms Darkness. Kazuma is annoyed by the endless harassment, and finally loses it when a little girl tries to trick him into signing a conversion form.
Characters[]
Differences to other versions[]
- The light novel elaborates about Jarippa being named by Megumin at its owner's behest.
- While in the anime Kazuma only glimpses an Elf and a Dwarf arguing in front of their shops when riding into Arcanletia, in the light novel he actually walks up to them during sightseeing, before hearing of how they are simply putting on an act as well as make-up for the sake of tourists.
