Synopsis[]
The Devil King's army attack alarm rings in the royal capital! The adventurer's guild calls on high-level adventurers to join the battle. Having failed to capture the thief at Alderp's mansion, Kazuma joins the fight in order to redeem his reputation.
Plot[]
As the Royal Capital braces itself for an especially large-scale attack from the Devil King's Army, Kazuma who had led his party to the Royal Castle where soldiers and adventurers are mustering for a response, finds himself rejected by the local Adventurer Guild's staff because his level is too low. Claire though grants him permission to participate in the battle because of his past triumphs over multiple Devil King's Generals, a declaration that drives nearby adventurers who had heard of his exploits into cheering for Kazuma, while Iris flanked by Rain looks at him admiringly from the balcony. Having his moment of glory interrupted by Aqua expressing pessimism due to Megumin and Darkness' regular antics, Kazuma anyhow assures her of their victory, before the defenders follow Claire into battle.
Subsequently finding himself sitting in front of an exasperated Eris, the embarrassed Kazuma following a long awkward pause explains how the battle had initially been going well, yet soon after Sniping the Kobold biting on Aqua and teasing her over being beaten by a weak monster, which drove her into beating up other stronger monsters using her godly attacks, he chased a straggler Kobold only to run into an ambush by its numerous kin, where they ganged up on and bludgeoned him to death. The goddess however reveals that she is upset over his sexual harassment, reminding him of how he had sexually harassed one of her Thief followers. Making Eris even angrier instead because of claiming it to be him mistaking Chris for a man due to her flat chest, Kazuma begs for the goddess' forgiveness, before she scratches her face and teases him over his new little sister, then proceeds to beseech for his aid in the rewardless and thankless task of retrieving the missing Divine Items gifted by Aqua to Japanese reincarnates.
Later Resurrected by Aqua, who teases him for being killed by Kobolds and then runs off to bring back other fallen defenders following the kingdom's victory, Kazuma ponders about the two Divine Items Eris had petitioned him to retrieve, which are respectively capable of randomly summoning monsters that the user can command at a price and temporarily switching the user's body with somebody else, since users other than the original can still cause huge upheavals. He accordingly sees Darkness lauded for tanking all of the enemy's spells as she charged into their midst and drew away the attention of the shocked enemy troops, and finally Megumin carried on a stretcher is named the day's MVP for reducing the irritating enemy commander along with his retreating troops to ash. However, when Megumin, whose chuunibyou proclamation spoken while she finished off the enemy gets praised, reveals herself as the one who ended many of the Devil King's Generals in addition to the Destroyer using her Explosion, the awed knights ask to see her cast Advanced Magic, which she tries to decline through various excuses, before screaming for Kazuma's help.
While Kazuma later on carries Megumin into the Royal Castle for the victory banquet, he is asked if they can return to Axel the first thing next morning. Next greeted by Iris who calls him "big brother" to Megumin's displeasure, Kazuma admits to having died once, shocking the princess into letting them rest in his bedroom at the castle. As Megumin rests in the bedroom of the castle where life is luxurious, she when Kazuma contemplates his lack of battle feats tells him how she enjoys it more with the four of them living in Axel. Iris then comes to inform Kazuma of Claire's opposition to him staying, making Megumin feel jealous at being left out of the conversation, before she notices the necklace worn by Iris being a powerful magical item. Explaining how she had taken custody over this necklace in place of the absent Jatice to whom it was originally gifted, Iris shows them the indecipherable script etched on the back of it, which is needed to be spoken out loud for the magic of the necklace to function. Upon noticing that script to be Japanese, Kazuma utters them out loud, resulting in the necklace glowing before emitting a bright flash. Megumin afterwards doesn't notice anything different, until Iris speaks in Kazuma's tone, while Kazuma claims to be Iris.
Realising the fact of Kazuma and Iris switching bodies, Kazuma contemplates how he'll miss his original body even if he is fine with living as a beautiful girl from now on, since repeating the keyword on the necklace didn't switch them back. Iris on the other hand is excited at having to perform adventures as a male adventurer, which Megumin tries to talk her out of. Pondering to ask Aqua if she has any way of reverting them to normal, Kazuma suddenly remembers Eris and her conversation about the Divine Items, and accordingly assures the others about the switch being only temporary. As Megumin breathes a sigh of relief, Iris asks Kazuma if she can use his body for setting foot outside the Royal Castle without bodyguards. With Megumin volunteering to accompany her, Kazuma reluctantly agrees to Iris' request, though he is still worried by Megumin planning to teach her how to haggle when shopping or accept challenges when being provoked into fights.
Afterwards, Kazuma with Claire following wanders around the castle, where maids and menservants respectively bow as he passes by much to his delight. Detecting something off with the princess, Claire asks if she had been taught something nasty by Kazuma, at which the man in question orders her not to disrespect Kazuma who should be noted in history books as a wonderful character, shocking Claire into pondering Kazuma's elimination much to his discomfort. The pair then runs into Mitsurugi, who Claire thanks for helping in the previous battle. Mitsurugi as he proclaims his duty of protecting the people and the princess proceeds to stroke Iris' head, so the piqued Kazuma in her body scares him by telling Claire to have him executed for disrespect, then at the retainer's pleading retracts his order before sending the Sword Master scramming.
Unable to find Darkness whom he wants to tease, Kazuma hears from Claire that she has gone to bathe due to being covered in soot during the battle. He immediately asks to be led to the bathroom so he can wash her back, and shuts up Claire's protests about the breach in protocol by offering to wash her too, though the retainer's overeager reaction momentarily surprises him. They arrive at the bathroom room to find that Darkness had already finished her bath, but when Kazuma cutely expresses his wish of helping her wash, the moved Darkness proceed to undress alongside Claire. The sheer suddenness of the two busty beauties undressing without hesitation before his eyes though makes Kazuma hesitate, as he begins to understand why did the Japanese reincarnate wish for a Divine Item that switches bodies. Throwing away all concerns over Iris discovering him to have bathed in her body, Kazuma in face of the impending paradise chooses to enjoy the moment while undressing himself.
He however suddenly has his sight filled by some macho thugs ready to start a fight with him, before confusedly finding himself back in his body on the streets. Next hearing Megumin behind him goading Iris into further taunting the weeping leader of the thugs through insults on his manliness, Kazuma still stunned by the turn of events can only stand around dumbly as the leader punches him.
