Synopsis[]
Chris tells Kazuma that the necklace he and Iris swapped bodies with is a sacred treasure, and it is dangerous and can threaten lives depending on its use. Princess Iris is in danger! Two robbers dressed in black sneak into the royal castle at night!
Plot[]
As Iris discovers to her shock that her body she had returned to is undressed, Kazuma while he flees alongside Megumin from the thugs beating him up wails his misfortune to Eris. Later at the victory banquet held in the Royal Castle, he gets scolded by Aqua over his idiocy, weeps over Iris being enraged at him, and receives disparaging comments from participating nobles. Claire next comes ordering him to leave the Royal Capital by tomorrow, before scoffing at him not deserving to be at the banquet, sending Kazuma racing back to the inn in tears.
After Kazuma rages in his room over the truth of Claire's words, he receives a visit from Chris, so refusing her request again, Kazuma tells her about the divine necklace for switching bodies being a harmless item. But his attitude changes once told that the body switch becomes permanent if one side dies during the switching, making achieving immortality possible through switching with a younger body and killing the original aged body. Yet since sending a warning to the higher-ups and making the power of the Divine Item become publicly known will only tempt the nobles into coveting it, Chris suggests for them to go play with the princess instead.
At the outside of the Royal Castle where the occupants are busy with celebrations, Chris wearing a black outfit and mask leads Kazuma, who is also dressed in black and covering his face with the mask received from the sketchy employee working at a magic item shop in Axel, in preparation for infiltrating the building. After Kazuma has a disagreement with Chris over who gets to be the leader, at her suggestion he agrees to settle it with a rock-paper-scissors contest, only to find himself losing at it for the first time and ending up as the assistant.
Setting their sights on Iris' bedroom at the top of the tallest tower, through Kazuma looping a rope over the walls with Snipe, the pair employing Lurk make their way through the courtyard while hiding from patrolling soldiers. Kazuma upon getting an Enemy Detection flattens Chris onto the walls, but in the process purposefully nudges Chris' breasts and causes her to scream, which in turn alerts nearby soldiers of their presence.
Soon fleeing through the castle corridors from pursuers as he argues with Chris over their cover being blown, Kazuma when they run upstairs Creates Water on the floor before Freezing it so the soldiers running after them slip and fall over, then Chris blocks off the corridor behind them with Wire Trap. However, they are next confronted by Claire and Rain at the forefront of more soldiers, so Chris calls for a retreat. Kazuma who will be kicked out of the Royal Capital tomorrow, though, uncharacteristically insists on completing the job, and after recollecting his week with Iris as well as the conversation with her on the balcony during the farewell banquet, he decides to get serious.
Fleeing from Claire's slashing attacks, Kazuma Drain Touches her of power until she collapses, to the surprise of all including Chris, from whom Kazuma keeps the Lich origins of Drain Touch a secret. Further taking on a pompous attitude because of the mask's effects, he Drain Touches the soldier reinforcements, while identifying his duo as the "Silver-Haired Thief Brigade" in an attempt to downplay his role in the incident, much to the chagrin of Chris, who having spotted Rain finishing her Healing of Claire, stops the Wizard from casting Lightning with Skill Bind.
Mitsurugi abruptly cuts through Chris' Wire Trap, and chooses to take on Kazuma while leaving Chris whom he refers to as a "boy" for the other defenders to deal with. After consoling the dejected Chris, Kazuma leaps at Mitsurugi, who thinking that the thief wants to Steal the sheathed Gram much like the time he lost to Kazuma, prepares to strike since he is carrying many items to interfere with that skill, only to have Gram Frozen onto its sheath. Surprised at being unable to readily draw his sword, Mitsurugi then finds himself slipping over on the Frozen floor, before he has Created Water forced down his throat. Shocked at Mitsurugi collapsing in defeat, the enraged Claire hacks out at Kazuma, who subsequent to dodging it advises her and Rain to save the waterlogged Mitsurugi first.
Continuing onwards with Chris while a Wire Trap she had left behind them blocks pursuing soldiers, Kazuma pulls open the door leading to Iris' bedroom, behind which awaits Darkness. He thus quickly shuts the door that the piqued Darkness then throws open, before she pauses once seeing through the thieves' identities. The princess armed with a rapier and swearing by the ring on her finger then steps out to fight, though she gets interrupted by Megumin who is captivated by the cool mask on Kazuma's face. Kazuma proceeds to Bind the two unresisting girls together, only to have a drunken Aqua release them with Sacred Break Spell.
As Aqua declares her intention of gaining more bubbly for reward and infuriates Kazuma, Mitsurugi and Claire alongside other reinforcements begin to close in, so Kazuma and Chris agree to Steal from Iris once they rush inside her bedroom. Requested by Claire to capture the thieves, Darkness accordingly declares her intent to perform a Side Slash for helping the pair dodge it and break past her, allowing them to charge at Iris as they both Steal something off her. During their dash towards the window without checking what they Stole, the irate Aqua unleashes her powers for sealing after Kazuma and Chris, who jump from the tower into the moat below. While the other defenders watch the thieves escape, Darkness notices the princess forlornly caressing her empty hand.
Later heading to the inn, she furiously squeezes the heads of Kazuma and Chris as the pair try to lay blame on the other, then chastises them for not talking about the Divine Item beforehand. Further inquiring if they are hiding anything else, she is presented by Kazuma Iris' ring that he had Stolen, the sight of which drives Darkness into commanding him not to lose nor let anyone else see it, since that engagement ring is something for the princess to hand unto her marriage partner, and Kazuma returning it to Iris may result in him getting silenced, so he will need to carry it on him out of sight.
In an ensuing audience the princess holds with their party, Darkness explains all about the necklace's threat to Iris and her court. Feeling miserable because Claire insults him once more, Kazuma is surprised when Iris speculates the thieves' purpose was to protect her, making him suspect her already knowing their identity. Claire and Rain follow up by extolling that masked thief's greatness and prowess, so when Megumin expresses her admiration of him, Kazuma grins proudly to Aqua's disgust. At Claire reprimanding Kazuma again, Iris finds herself liking that noble thief who had acted out of concern for her, though when Darkness has to restrain a Kazuma so moved he attempts to spill the beans, the princess teasingly says that she was referring to the one with silver hair.
Just when Iris asks Kazuma for something as both sides prepare to bid farewell, Darkness formally presents Kazuma who had already defeated several of the Devil King's Generals to be the one who will vanquish the Devil King, so after Kazuma nervously admits going to do so, Iris wishes him luck. Megumin however jumps in complaining about Iris calling Kazuma "big brother", in response to which the princess uncharacteristically squabbles with her, before wishing for continuing the boardgame match between her and Kazuma someday.
Back at the party's mansion, Kazuma hollers over Iris not wishing for him to stay with her because Darkness cut him off with all that stuff about the Devil King, so as Megumin writes a fan letter to the masked thief while a drinking Aqua looks on, Darkness in response tells Kazuma to give up on his dreams of the princess falling in love with him. Meanwhile, Claire and Rain apologise for letting the princess' ring get stolen, though Iris who doesn't mind contemplates on her kingdom's ancient tradition of letting the hero marry the princess after he defeats the Devil King, then wishes for Kazuma to take good care of the ring.
In the dark basement of his manor, Aldarp furiously stomps on a cowering figure, who apologises for the governor's Divine Item getting stolen as well as sealed, further enraging Aldarp as he rages over his wish still being unfulfilled.

Differences to other versions[]
- In the light novel, Kazuma manages to beat up the three thugs, but upon returning to the castle with Megumin who explained what she did with the princess during their outing, he suffers an even worse beating at the hands of the furious Darkness and Claire.
- During the banquet in the light novel, Claire insultingly mocks Kazuma over his dismal failures as well as forecast how his party members who get to stay at the castle will be transferred to the more competent Mitsurugi's party, then refuses to have the necklace handed to Aqua because it's a gift to Prince Jatice, before ordering him out of the Royal Capital and sending him scampering away.
- Chris in the light novel further explains to Kazuma how the necklace being gifted to Jatice is a sign that somebody was conspiring to usurp the bodies of the kingdom's royalty, and doesn't wear a mask during the heist.
- Kazuma in the anime doesn't ponder trying to keep Chris the devout Eris follower from meeting Wiz the Lich and Vanir the Demon like he does in the light novel, because she had already met them ever since the visual novel game and the dungeon crawler game released on PS4 that were based off the anime timeline.
- Subsequent to the pair scaling the castle walls, in the light novel Chris picks a lock so they can enter the castle proper, and after successfully avoiding some guards wants to go check out the royal treasury which she then unlocks with a Barrier Breaker, only to have Kazuma fall to the temptation of an adult magazine stored there, the removal of which sets off an alarm alerting of intruders.
- In the light novel, Chris calls for a retreat soon after laying a Wire Trap at a lower floor, but Kazuma refusing to give up starts Drain Touching the soldiers who caught up for their magical power so he can continuously cast Bind or Create Earth and Wind Breath on other defenders, while other high-levelled adventurers are too drunk to stop them.
- Mitsurugi waits alongside Claire and Rain for the thieves to show up while other nobles look on in the light novel, but after getting Gram Frozen in its sheath, has his face doused by Kazuma's Create Water, and is then rendered unable to breathe when the water in his mouth and nose get Frozen, forcing Rain to busy herself with thawing the ice.
- Kazuma Drain Touching Claire, Rain using Healing Magic, and Kazuma speaking in Vanir's tones occur only in the anime.
- In the light novel, the Skill Bind cast by Chris is used on some unnamed mage adventurer on a lower floor instead of Rain, whose attacking magic aimed to kill them is stopped when Kazuma destroys her magic rod from afar with Snipe.
- The door leading to Iris' bedroom is situated on an indoors corridor in the light novel, instead of being outdoors like in the anime.
- Subsequent to Darkness realising the thieves' identities, Kazuma and Chris in the light novel start loudly talking about how dangerous the necklace is, which convinces Darkness into secretly aiding them before Megumin walks outside, and after that Kazuma only Binds Darkness, before a sober Aqua walks out to Break his skill.
- During her after-action interrogation of the thieves in the light novel, Darkness notices Chris, whom she tells to leave the Royal Capital because of her silver hair, hiding something because she scratched her scarred cheek, resulting in Kazuma producing the adult magazine he had taken, which the disgusted Crusader using her oil lighter later burned.
- Darkness in the light novel brings Kazuma to Iris' bedroom for explaining the necklace and its dangers, only to discover that Aqua had already told everyone all about it in addition to how the Divine Item's powers were now sealed.
- Claire also expresses affection towards the masked thief in the light novel.
- After Rain Teleports the party back to their mansion in the light novel, Kazuma following his tantrum calls for a party toast with wine that Megumin runs to buy from Michael, before vehemently refusing to let Aqua perform a trick with Iris' ring because she will only make it disappear for good like what she did with Mitsurugi's.
- Aldarp in the light novel reveals his scheme of adopting Walther so he can usurp his body with the necklace once the boy marries Darkness, though because the marriage interview failed, changed to gifting the necklace to Jatice in order to assume the crown prince's identity and use it to marry Darkness.

- The items carried by Mitsurugi to thwart attempts at Stealing Gram include small stuffed toys of a Giant Toad, a Lizard Runner, the Winter Shogun, and a Snow Sprite.
