An Explosion on This Wonderful World! (この
Plot[]
Back at the Adventurer Guild, Megumin explains how Host had defeated Rex's party, causing panic among the adventurers. Yunyun next snatches away Chomusuke in fear the pondering Megumin decides to hand her over to the Demon, though Megumin explains that as a Crimson Demon, she has no intention of giving in to threats, especially when she is the only one capable of defeating Host now that they couldn't find the Archpriest. As Yunyun attempts to walk away and leave Megumin to her devices, she is stopped and enticed into helping her after Megumin says that they are friends.
That night, Megumin walks out from the inn where she stays at with 10 million eris, making Yunyun who was waiting outside with Chomusuke think that she had been defiled. Handed the money so she can go buy anything looking useful from the magic item shop in addition to a black stuffed toy cat, Yunyun later returns with many products that Megumin notices were actually produced in the Crimson Demon Village, including to her delight a Scroll of Concealment. Megumin then ties Chomusuke to the toy so that the cat's scent will stick onto it, and plans to use the toy as bait while she remains concealed with the scroll, before she obliterates the Demon in a surprise attack once it shows up. As Megumin expresses her determination to save Chomusuke, Yunyun reminisces on how much she had changed during the past year.
Later curled up on her bed in her inn room, Megumin realises how she can't fall asleep because she forgot to perform her daily explosive routine. She then feigns sleep upon hearing the door Unlocked, before hearing the entering Yunyun, who believes that she is asleep, express how amazing she finds Megumin to be when faced with such a foe. Yunyun continues on about how stupid she thought Megumin was for learning Explosion Magic and coming up with stupid conversion methods in Arcanletia, as well as how she proved her incredibleness by defeating the Dark God's minions and Arnes. Yet since the flow of magic caused when Megumin prepares to cast Explosion will give away her position even when using the Scroll of Concealment, Yunyun while taking the toy cat reveals that she had in her first ever invitation asked Rex's party to join her on a revenge match against the Demon, and accordingly casts Sleep on her best friend to prevent her from going ahead with the hopeless battle plan.
Waking up late in the following morning, Megumin quickly dresses up and heads out of her room, where she runs into Cecily. After the Priest learns of the situation, which is partially a result of her Healing Rex's party the previous day just to snub the Eris Order, she gives a Blessing to Megumin, who gratefully sets off.
In the midst of a desperate battle with Host at the hills outside Axel, Yunyun and Rex's party manage to hold their own through the help of some magic items. As Megumin who arrives concealed with the scroll looks on in surprise, Yunyun again expends a Scroll of Magic Canceller against Host's Inferno before using Manatite for powering up her Blade of Wind and Lightning, making Megumin decide against interrupting them. The vexed Host then goes for a frontal assault, and being immune to Yunyun's Flash that instead blinds Megumin, he successfully defeats Terry and Sophie. Rex proceeds to buy some time for Yunyun to drink a potion, and following his defeat she uses Paralyse on Host, which to the Demon's surprise works because the potion Yunyun used as a gamble increased the power of her magic.
Host though points out that Yunyun is nearly out of magical power and may not be able to finish him off in the few minutes of Paralysis, so he offers a truce for the day in which he promises not to hurt her comrades. Yunyun starts considering to accept despite Rex's party encouraging her to defeat the Demon, making Host realise to his amusement that Yunyun is also paralysed as a result of the potion bought from the beautiful shopkeeper indiscriminately Paralysing everyone within a wide radius.
Just as Yunyun is stuck in a dilemma, Megumin reveals herself while citing how she was put to Sleep before she was able to perform her daily routine, therefore she chooses the surprised Host as the target for releasing her pent up powers. Yunyun who realises that Megumin was awake last night then hears mocking reiterations of all the embarrassing things she had said, plunging her into extreme embarrassment.
Megumin accordingly prepares the same Explosion Magic used to vanquish Arnes, making a resigned Host comment on his misfortune of not being at full strength which may allow him to survive. He goes on to mull over how during the previous day, he was wounded when attacked by an especially tough Crusader and a Thief in shorts, thus he took it out by attacking the city, only to have a strange woman repairing the walls blast him with nasty exorcism magic. Accepting his fate of losing a life as the Explosion hits him, Host wonders if the next time he will end up being summoned to be Komekko's familiar.
Back in town, a Cecily overjoyed with Megumin being alive reveals how she is going on an adventure, so that she can become a skilled as well as beautiful Priest capable of more than healing magic, in addition to reaching the level where she can become the head of a local church, which Megumin realises means the Axis Order's branch in Axel. Following Cecily's departure, Yunyun takes Megumin who she calls her rival outside the city walls, before declaring that she is also going on an adventure to learn Advanced Magic for defeating her, though Megumin finds it more like escaping from the embarrassment of calling her a friend. Yunyun then admits how she will never become stronger than Megumin if she remains by her side, so Megumin agrees to have a fair contest with Yunyun when she returns.
Megumin dines at the Guild sometime after the hero with the cursed sword recovered from his injuries, though she is still rejected from adventurer parties, prompting her to go on a walk where she passes by a blonde Crusader. Yunyun meanwhile has a nice conversation with a busty woman she shares a carriage with, until she debarks and walks to her next destination, then when she makes camp that night, Megumin does her daily routine of Explosion.
At the Guild afterwards, the other adventurers trying to recruit party members still claim that the spots are filled once they notice Megumin looking at them. As the starving Megumin regrets giving all her money to Yunyun, she notices on the bulletin board a new recruiting advertisement from a party consisting of an Archpriest and an Adventurer that is only looking for advanced Classes. Next overhearing an Adventurer wearing a green jersey debating with the rumoured Archpriest with blue hair over that advertisement being too restrictive and unattractive, she bereft of any other choice approaches the pair, before introducing herself in Crimson Demon fashion as the Archwizard Megumin who wields Explosion Magic.

- The conversation between Yunyun and Wolbach in the Anime occurred during the ending theme, thus details of it written in the Light Novel that involves Wolbach mourning her servants as well as them discussing incidents in Arcanletia were not actually depicted on screen.
- The Anime cut out the part in the Light Novel where Rex's party invites Megumin to join them on their journey to the Royal Capital only for her to turn it down because of her low level and attachment to Axel.
Trivia[]
- In the initial television broadcast, the opening theme was omitted because there weren't enough air time to fit in all the themes given the amount of plot. The opening theme with its footages was properly placed in its right spot in the BD versions later sold.
- The footages when the ending theme is played show a series of speechless montages depicting what occurred after Yunyun's departure but before Megumin finally found her party.
