Fanatics of the Water City ((みず)(みやこ)狂信者達(ファナティック), Mizu no Miyako no Fanatikku) is the eighth episode of the KonoSuba Bakuen anime, which covers Chapter 4 in Volume 2 of the light novels, or Chapter 11 to Chapter 12 of the manga.

Plot[]

While Cecily and Megumin eat breakfast the following morning, Yunyun explains that she was just delivering a letter and didn't know it would get Zesta arrested, though Cecily states it's all fine as the Archpriest is probably enjoying being interrogated by the female knight. Cecily then asks Megumin and Yunyun to help her collect votes and takes them to the fountain plaza where Tristan and another follower are vying for votes to become the next leader of the Axis Order through bribery tactics and crazy promises.

Later as the exasperated Crimson Demons take a break from helping impede the other candidates, Cecily offers them some Gelatinous Slime, which is a delicacy in Arcanletia. The priest then consoles Yunyun with the teachings of Lady Aqua, before taking them to visit the inns that filed complaints about the hot springs water, at one of which they see that the water in the hot springs had turned into Gelatinous Slime.

Heading to the distribution system maintained by the Axis Order, where the hot springs water running down from their source in the mountains get distributed to the various inns, they see it clogged with Gelatinous Slime too, which according to reports appeared soon after Zesta went to clean the facility. Some knights then appear and state that they had already collected all the evidence, before showing the girls the big sack of Gelatinous Slime mix Zesta was witnessed carrying. Megumin though wonders why Zesta would do such childish thing, since he could have just poisoned the hot springs if he had wanted to ruin them. The knights, however, dismiss her query by citing the quirkiness of the Axis followers, before stopping a saddened Cecily from drinking some of the Gelatinous Slime because it is evidence.

As the trio heads back to town, Megumin tries comforting Cecily by saying Zesta will be released once he pays his debt to society, yet Yunyun explains that the penalty for conspiracy to commit treason is death. Just when Megumin and Cecily turn in shock at the revelation, the three of them hear Zesta in front of the police station where he got released from busy reprimanding the knights for their mistake. He then makes the apologising female knight tell the trio how he was mistakenly arrested, since a lie-detecting magic device brought by the female prosecutor ended up proving his innocence, though Zesta was quite happy seeing her confident face welling up with tears and rubs it in the irate female knight's face.

Wondering about the culprit of the incident while making their way towards the fountain plaza, the group runs into Arnes, whose lewd attire makes Zesta quite excited as well as asking Megumin about her, at which Megumin explains that she is an enemy who is there for Chomusuke. Arnes then states she doesn't want to hurt them, yet Zesta interrupts her, saying how he actually does wish for her to hurt him. The irritated Arnes proceeds to shoot a Fireball, the backwash from which blows the hood hiding her demon horns off. Upon realising her to be a Demon that the Axis Order is prohibited from appreciating, Zesta who is fine with even Orcs and Ogres casually Reflects her Fireball. After Cecily reveals to the shocked Arnes how they are of a high-ranking holy class capable of exorcising Demons, more followers of the Axis Order appear on scene. Zesta proceeds to blame the baffled Arnes for the Slime in the hot springs, before ordering everyone to hunt her down, and the two Crimson Demons can only watch as Arnes is forced to fly away while being chased down by powerful exorcism magic.

At dusk, Megumin tells Yunyun that she is heading toward Axel, since she heard that someone who uses Explosion Magic lives there, at which Yunyun states how she is too headed towards Axel, since she plans on starting training against weak monsters. When Megumin tells Yunyun to go without her since it will take her a while to gather money for the trip, Yunyun changes to saying she isn't in a hurry and will do some sightseeing before heading to Axel. Zesta at this moment returns, expressing that the Demon managed to escape them. He subsequently gives Megumin the money to cover the trip to Axel, as gratitude for teaching him all the recruitment methods. The excited Megumin immediately declares her intent to head for Axel right away, before teasing Yunyun who has to change her mind into heading there now too and start training before Megumin. Zesta then suggests that Megumin stay for the night or for a week, which annoys Yunyun as she needs to make another excuse.

That night, Megumin enjoys with Cecily the hot spring behind the main Axis cathedral, where the Priest reveals that it was actually indeed Zesta who messed up the hot springs, as he had mixed up a bag of baking soda with slime mix while he was cleaning, though she asks Megumin to keep it a secret. When Megumin complains about Cecily being too close to her, Cecily states it's because the bath is too small. She proceeds to explain how making the bath is expensive, as they had to hire a mage who used Blast Magic to create the small holes for each hot spring. At this, Megumin offers to give them bigger baths, and upon Cecily's confirmation, she excitedly uses Explosion to create a huge hole further up the mountains, into which new hot springs water gush.

The next day at the caravan stop, a Zesta surprised that Megumin can use Explosion Magic thanks her for creating the new secret spring big enough for all the followers to bathe in. He then casts a Blessing on her, though he refuses to do so on Yunyun because of the trouble to him caused by her arrival. Cecily subsequently gives a gift to Megumin, but upon discovering that it's all Axis conversion forms, the Archwizard throws them into Cecily's face.

When it's time for the caravan towards Axel to set off, Megumin and Yunyun followed by Chomusuke hop onto their carriage. As they ride past various people along the streets, one of them a resentful man with dark skin and brown hair, Megumin ponders the type of competent companions she aspires to have in her future party.
