The fifth chapter of the Kyakkou manga, which covers Chapter 4 in Volume 1 of the light novels.
Summary[]
Irate at Rin and Keith because they respectively refused to lend him money and teased his lack of it, Dust runs into Darkness who is planning to go questing with Chris, and recalling her identity as the rich heiress of House Dustiness, he tails Darkness in hopes of eventually enticing her into sharing him some of her wealth. He proceeds to enlist the help of Yunyun, who usually plays games all by herself at the Guild, through claiming that he wants to make friends with Kazuma's party members and will ultimately let her become close with Megumin.
They soon observe how during a battle against a pair of Goblins, Darkness runs straight into the Bind cast by Chris before the Thief manages to take out the monsters. As Dust wonders if it had been an error in cooperation, he hears Darkness calling for some newly-arrived Goblins to ravage her before throwing aside her sword and armour, much to the exasperation of Chris and the astonishment of the observers. Following her clothes suffering damage, the euphoric Darkness is Binded by an annoyed Chris trying to stop her from saying anything excessively perverted. Later on when Chris warns Darkness how her antics may get her kicked out of her party and asks for the type of men who she likes, the thrilled Crusader lists the traits of perverse and lazy scum until stopped by the disgusted Thief. Yunyun though finds those traits exactly describing Dust, and confirms her belief with a series of questions for him, so she volunteers to match Dust and Darkness together like how the romance novels she had read goes.
Dust afterwards arrives late to a coffee shop where Yunyun and Vanir who had followed along due to seeing an amusing future are waiting, and apologising at Vanir for keeping him waiting to Yunyun's vexation, he is handed one of the romance novels she had been reading for ideas to woo Darkness, though neither him nor Vanir comprehend the concept of ideal romance. Yunyun thus suggests Dust start off with doing a wall slam on Darkness, yet not only do Dust and Vanir hold different semantics regarding the action, but they go on to propose making Darkness happier by slamming her on the wall. When discussing giving Darkness presents, Vanir recommends gifting her whips or candles or rope, to Yunyun's bafflement. Just as the trio plans on asking somebody who knows what Darkness likes, the shop waitress impatiently asks for their order. Despite Yunyun trying to order something, Dust and Vanir declare their refusal to spend money, resulting in the waitress driving them all out.
Characters[]
Differences to other versions[]
- The manga skims over the part where Dust at the Guild pesters his party members for money in vain.
- Darkness in the light novel tells Dust about Kazuma lazing around in their party's mansion and Megumin taking Aqua out for her daily Explosion.
- In the light novel, Yunyun after Dust discovers her looking at romance novels in the bookstore, attempts to deny her loneliness when he asks for the loner's accompaniment for trailing Darkness, to the point that the delinquent offers treating her for lunch out of pity.
- The befuddlement expressed by Yunyun over Darkness feeling pleasure from being attacked is omitted in the manga.
- During the meeting at the coffee shop in the light novel, Yunyun becomes exasperated by Dust and Vanir's discussion about base desires, before reminding the delinquent about their goal of pairing him up with Darkness.
- Yunyun in the manga only brings up Yours name is as an example of the bestseller romance novels that she had read.
Timeline Paradox[]
Although this chapter appears to occur during the winter soon after the adventures of Axel find out about Darkness' true name and noble origins, Dust's first meeting with Yunyun as shown in the light novel of Vanir's spinoff is indicated to have taken place sometime during the ensuing summer later in the story timeline.
