The ninth chapter of the Kyakkou manga, which covers Chapter 6 in Volume 1 of the light novels.

Summary[]

At the restaurant they frequent, Dust recaps to his party members how he got jailed and ended up working for nothing, yet they all ignore his grumblings and focus on waiting for somebody. Attempting to grope Rin's flat breasts while she pretends he is invisible only to have a dagger stabbed right next to his hand, Dust quickly apologises to the irate Wizard, before he is shocked by the arrival of another adventurer who had been taking his place in the party during his two weeks of imprisonment.

Later at Wiz's Shop, Dust wishes for a friend who will feed and pay him, though Yunyun while in the middle of stacking a house of cards simply deadpans in response. She proceeds to stop Dust from toppling the house, only to have it collapse when Vanir deposits a crate onto the table. He then offers Dust to take one magic item for free in exchange for him taking Yunyun outside, so Dust pulls out from the crate a magical portable toilet that Wiz had previously purchased, and hears about how its loud noise can attract monsters as well as its tendency to create too much water which soaks the surroundings.

Dust next rants about his party members ignoring him to go off adventuring with some other guy, though Vanir and Yunyun stand with his party members, and criticise his definition of companionship as serving only his interests. This causes Dust to recall how he was once told that living seriously and rigidly will only invite suffering without gain, following which Vanir who has seen through his past advises him not to let his guard down.

The delinquent adventurer subsequently heads to the Guild, only to find his absence being used as the source of various gossip and rumours in addition to a betting subject among the other adventurers who are disappointed at his return. Asking the approaching Luna for quests he can perform solo, he hears her lauding a familiar loner Archwizard who single-handedly completed many quests. As Cabbage Season is still a way off and the Giant Toads already wakened because of nightly Explosions during the period Dust was sound asleep in the prison cell he shared with Kazuma, coupled with the requestors for odd jobs specifically rejecting Dust due to his everyday behaviour, the delinquent adventurer is left with no jobs to earn money through.

Wandering the streets with an empty stomach, Dust ponders apologising to Rin, when he runs into the Loli Succubus, who tells him that the Succubus Cafe as apology for him missing out on his week of free services offers to only serve him that night. Dust in absent-minded bliss accordingly walks into some unfamiliar alleyways, where he hears the familiar voice of the ringleader of the masked men involved in Darkness' attempted kidnapping. After the ringleader grumbles with a subordinate over the pervert possibly being a look-alike of the heiress, they talk about their accomplice who had wormed his way into the party of the loli-faced Rin, and plan to rough up the men while delicately treating the girl, much to Dust's alarm.

Characters[]

Differences to other versions[]

  • In the light novel, Rin after stabbing at Dust with her dagger expresses her continued jealousy over his relationship with the Loli Succubus, while the temporary member carries a sword on his back.
  • Vanir in the light novel also shows Dust an orb containing lightning magic which only shoots downwards.
  • After leaving the Guild in the light novel, the starving Dust heads for Kazuma's mansion in hopes that his rich friend can treat him to a meal only to find the place empty, and wandering the streets for thugs to extort money from also fails because of the town having a low crime rate.
  • The manga omits the point about the kidnappers working for some noble.
