Wallavy (ワラヴィー) was a self-replicating Slime made up of warabi mochi.[1]
Appearance[]
In its fundamental form, Wallavy is a blob of yellowish-brown warabi mochi with a glowing red core within it, something that its small clones lack. Those parts of Wallavy that Rav later made modifications on grow sharp spines all over them, making them look like yellowish sea urchins.
As Wallavy grows, it starts taking the shape of a wallaby with red eyes as well as generating grey metal plates looking like armour over itself and blades over its forearms. Once it grows to gigantic proportions, Wallavy's neck will lengthen while more metal plates are added, and additional tails may develop. In its final mutation, Wallavy takes the shape of a monstrous demonic wallaby covered in diabolic armour and sporting metal wings.
History[]
Long ago, the Head Researcher, who was employed by Lundberg's ancestor to "make something great", took advantage of the deal to laze around doing nothing except periodically assembling simple gadgets for deceiving his employer. But one day, he had an urge to eat warabi mochi, which the people of this world didn't know how to make and could only come up with sauced slime at best, so he decided to make the warabi mochi himself.
Combining the genes of Slime with plants similar to bracken, he successfully created a creature that could endlessly generate warabi mochi, and named it "Wallavy" when questioned by his employer in addition to claiming that it is the ultimate magical creature. Yet he couldn't eat up all the warabi mochi he soon grew tired of, so fearing Wallavy's unchecked replication could destroy the world by overruning it in warabi mochi, he modified the gadgets used for deceiving his employer into sealing devices, within which he sealed the split parts of Wallavy and hid into the depths of various dungeons.
Centuries later, the sealing device stored in the facility beneath Lundberg's mansion close to Axel was discovered, which Lundberg through Rav's manipulation tried to unseal by hiring Kazuma and his companions to trip the device's defence mechanism, though in the process of trying to stop the device with Explosion, Megumin inadvertently damaged Wallavy's core as well.
Wallavy was eventually freed after Kazuma and his companions brought Rav the replacement parts for repairing and activating the sealing device, at which it immediately slithered off towards the Temple of Everlasting Summer.
First Form[]
After draining the life force from the monsters in the temple, Wallavy proceeded into the neighbouring Oasis of Everlasting Summer, where it continued feasting on monsters until it grew into the form of a small wallaby while Rav observed. Wallavy then attacked Kazuma's party when they caught up, and despite being defeated, managed to regenerate itself and force the party into fleeing.
- If Kazuma's party hesitated when Wallavy prepared to attack, then they would have to fight Wallavy R (ワラヴィーR), which is saturated with the power it had absorbed.
Second Form[]
Growing into Wallavy Second Form (ワラヴィー第二形態) through draining the monsters in the Great Tree Labyrinth, it headed towards the sealing device containing other parts of itself. Despite being fended off by Kazuma's party who arrived looking for the observing Rav, Wallavy was still able to devour the device, and slipped away while the party was busy dealing with the defence mechanism.
Giant[]
Growing bigger until it became Giant Wallavy (巨大ワラヴィー), it trampled wide stretches of villages and farmlands before heading towards Axel, though due to it never causing fatalities, the kingdom's higher ups never took its threat seriously. Wallavy was met on the surrounding grasslands by Kazuma's party who had just returned from the Magic-Sealer Cave as well as their other companions, and began faltering after its body started melting under their fire magic.
The lowered air temperature as the sun was setting, however, gave Wallavy the chance to regenerate and counter attack, until Kazuma recalled how warabi mochi could be frozen stiff when refridgerated. He went on to attack Wallavy with his party until it was damaged enough, at which Wiz froze it with her ice magic. Immobile and unable to regenerate, Wallavy's body crumbled before the pieces were reclaimed by the Adventurer Guild.
Small[]
Wallavy's core, however, escaped its frozen body at the last moment to the observing Rav's side, and was taken with him when he made his escape. The core was accordingly inserted within a shell made from the sealing device for its protection, before it was set free from Rav's hideout at the Bottomless Labyrinth to grow again.
Following its recuperation by draining the powerful monsters roaming the labyrinth, this time Wallavy split itself into multiple coreless clones known as Small Wallavy (小型ワラヴィー), and sent them to various locations especially dungeons where they can efficiently gather the life force of monsters. But Kazuma's party as well as other adventurers soon went all over the land to eliminate them, prompting the main Wallavy to recall its clones and harvest all the life force they gathered.
Modified[]
While the main Wallavy was growing even more gigantic after it moved on from the Bottomless Labyrinth, Rav took parts of it back to the Secret Research Facility he had taken residence in for researching how to efficiently make those samples evolve.
Eventually, he was able to modify those parts into spiny Modified Wallavy (改造ワラヴィー), which not only specialises in combat and can boost efficiency for draining monsters, but to an extent is capable of listening to his commands. When Kazuma's party caught up with Rav, these modified breeds were ordered to eliminate them, though they were in the end defeated before getting eaten by Aqua.
- If Kazuma's party hesitated when Rav ordered Wallavy to attack, then they would have to fight one more Modified Wallavy R (改造ワラヴィーR).
Supergiant[]
Meanwhile, the mega-gigantic Supergiant Wallavy (超巨大ワラヴィー) headed towards Axel for more magical power, but was soon opposed out on the grasslands by Kazuma leading his companions as well as other remaining adventurers. Slowed down by Yunyun, Arue, Funifura, and other magic using adventurers, Wallavy was then set upon by Kazuma and his companions deployed for assault. During the battle, the location of Wallavy's core was uncovered by Chris before being aimed at by Megumin's Explosion, though it survived thanks to the sealing device it was contained in.
Supergiant Mutant[]
Evolving into Supergiant Wallavy Mutant (超巨大ワラヴィー変異型) due to absorbing magical power from the Explosion, it further boosted its toughness against physical and magical attacks. Yet Kazuma and all his companions, having learnt from Rav about Wallavy's damaged core limiting the time period it can battle, launched an all out attack on it.
- If Kazuma expressed pessimism as the attack was launched, then they would have to fight Supergiant Wallavy Mutant R (超巨大ワラヴィー変異型R), which sports three eyes, a longer tail, and a more terrifying demonic visage.
Beginning to falter under their relentless attacks, Wallavy started splitting out many small clones around it, only to have Megumin, Darkness, Mitsurugi, Vanir, Wiz, Yunyun, Arue, Funifura, Rin, and Dust sweep them aside. With a path through its small clones opened up, Aqua and Kazuma headed straight up to where Chris pointed out the core to be, at which Aqua broke open the sealing device so that Kazuma could destroy the core.
After its core's destruction, Wallavy collapsed into a gigantic pile of lifeless warabi mochi, which were then cut up by Aqua and subsequently brought back to the Guild for the victorious adventurers to feast on.
Abilities[]
- Life Force Absorption (生命力吸収): Envelops its enemies to absorb their life force, though gods as well as demons and undead are unaffected.
- Tail Attack (尻尾攻撃): Whips its enemies down with a sweep of its tail from its first form.
- Mow Down (薙ぎ払い): Slashes its enemies down with a sweep of the blades on its arms generated since the second form.
- Smacking In (ぶち当たり): Utilised by the small clones by launching themselves at an enemy.
- Thousand Needles (千本針): Used by the modified spiny version, in which they bounce around to impale enemies with their spines.
- Bellow (雄叫び): Releases an earth-shattering bellow in its mutated form to shake all surrounding enemies.
- Crushing (握り潰し): Grabs onto an enemy with its mutated hand before squeezing with crushing force.
Sealing Device[]
The device was originally some random gadget for emitting smoke, which the Head Researcher cobbled together so he can show Lundberg's ancestor that he was indeed making something. When asked by his employer again about the device, the Head Researcher for the purpose of deceiving him described it as having a Level Drain feature within its defence mechanism, though he later indeed added the curse onto the device because it sounded cool.
After the Head Researcher became tired of eating warabi mochi and wanted to seal Wallavy away, the device was modified and appended with rare parts to convert it into a sealing container. Because at that point Wallavy had grown to a considerable size, he duplicated the containers so he can seal Wallavy up in different parts. These containers were later hidden in several dungeons, one of them in the research facility he worked at under Lundberg's mansion and another in the depths of the Great Tree Labyrinth.
Centuries later, the device beneath Lundberg's mansion was discovered, which Rav was then hired to investigate. Kazuma and some of his companions were afterwards tricked into tripping its defence mechanism that enacted Level Drain on them once Aqua punched it, but in the process got blasted by Megumin's Explosion and shut down. Nevertheless, the device itself survived despite some of its parts ruined and requiring replacement.

A pipe of ancient design no longer in circulation, stocks of which can still be found in the Underground Sewers.
A Magical Stone of Water (水の魔石) with the power of manipulating bodies of water as large as a lake, such as the one flooding the Underwater Temple.
An electronic controller looking like a metallic slate for operating the device, which the Head Researcher left some of lying around in the Mysterious Facility at the Crimson Demon Village.
An Eternal Ice Crystal (永久氷晶) perfect for cooling down the device because it never melts, though it is difficult to obtain because it is only generated every few decades when Snow Sprites gather en masse at extremely cold environments like the Ice Mountain. |
The replacement parts were one after the other gathered by Kazuma and brought to Rav, who repaired and activated the device to release the Wallavy sealed within, before bringing it with him as he made his escape.
The sealing device hidden in the Great Tree Labyrinth was later targeted by Wallavy, and despite the Guardian of the Great Tree being left to guard it, the sealing device as well as the contents within were still absorbed by Wallavy without issue.
After Wallavy's defeat in its first attack on Axel, Rav inserted its core within an empty sealing device, so that the gadget sturdy enough to survive Megumin's Explosion can offer it protection. The device however ended up being smashed by Aqua's God Blow during the final battle, allowing Kazuma to make the killing blow.
Trivia[]
- For countering Wallavy in case it was one day released, the Head Researcher formulated the Widespread Foodstuffs Destruction Agent (広域食材破壊剤), which he later hid within the Magic-Sealer Cave. Yet due to the collateral damage it wreaks, namely reducing a wide area of the surrounding environment into barren wastelands for centuries and thus causing famine, this counter weapon is in practice actually unusable.
