The Winter Shogun (
Appearance[]
The Winter Shoguns doesn't have a real body, but when it manifest will assume the form of a bluish Japanese shogun wearing samurai-style armour and a warrior's surcoat while armed with a katana.
Overview[]
Originally the formless Spirit of Winter, when Aqua began sending reincarnated Japanese into the Parallel World, they began taking the form of shoguns to reflect how winter is personified in Japanese culture.[1]
The Winter Shogun is an extremely powerful monsters that are comparable with the Devil King's Generals, and the bounty on it is lower solely because it doesn't attack people unless the Snow Sprites are attacked. Yet despite its daunting power, its appearance is much liked by the inhabitants of the Parallel World, with dolls made in their image becoming popular toys.[2]
Variations[]
- Lieutenant Shogun (副将軍): A less powerful sprite roaming the Snowfield Forest that dresses like the Winter Shogun.[3]
- Rampager Shogun (アバレンボー将軍): A less powerful sprite rampaging on the Island in the Sky that dresses like the Winter Shogun, and is a pun on The Unfettered Shogun.[3]
Abilities[]
- Merciless Lightning Slash (無慈悲な閃撃): A lightning-fast slashing attack the Winter Shogun uses in order to instantly kill everyone that invites its wrath.[3][4]
Trivia[]
- The Winter Shogun makes a cameo appearance in the Re:Zero OVA as an enemy.[5]
- In a Fantastic Days collaboration event with Overlord, a Winter Shogun attacked the crew, but was defeated by Albedo.[6]
